Clemson 29 Ohio State 23 (National Semifinal)

Featured Replies

An observation and a question.

OSU had four marquee players (more, but four for the purposes of this post). Two wore #1 on their backs (qb and dB) and two wore #2 (rb and de).

Has this recently become a thing?

Almost always double numbers on college football teams because of the number of players dressed and number restrictions.

Top players on the same team have wore the same number on opposites side of the ball for years. This might be the most extreme version in recent memory.

I think the fact that the four players in question are so visible precipitated the question.

I know it’s difficult in the heat of the moment. But let’s keep the commentary on the game and not on each other. Sound good?

Well said pops!

Ohio State played well enough most of this game to win it. This loss is squarely on the coaches shoulders. The moment got too big for him at times and he got way too conservative in the red-zone. Ohio State had their way with the Clemson defense, moving the ball at will. They used spacing to counter Clemson's speed most of the game, but not when they kept kicking FG's early. They should have put it away early on, but just could not get it done.

Once Clemson got their feet under them, it was game on. I think Clemson being there the last 4 years in the playoffs, prepared them for the emotional swings of this game.

Ohio State Defense played better than I expected...they hadn't played a team with both a dynamic QB and run game all year. In the end it was the QB running that did them in. I thought their DB's played really good.

Ohio State will be right back here next year, as will Clemson.

How was that one play not a fumble by Clemson? Gracious.

There is absolutely no way replay should have reversed. “Indisputable video evidence” is simply not there.

This is from Terry McAulay, a veteran NFL referee regarding the fumble, scoop, TD by OSU.

That’s gonna be the one that haunts OSU the most.

All the talking heads are saying it should have been 24-0 early on. That’s a lot of woulda coulda shoulda. But I think it should have been 20-0 for sure.

That is my beef with replay overturns, if the standard is indisputable I just ain't buying.

Again, I think the NFL gets them wrong too.

Tough loss for the Buckeyes they had about 100 more total yards 7 more first downs and 7 minute advantage in time of possession. They just had too many FG’s in the Red zone.

Is it just me, or was Young considerably less impactful on the game than many thought he would be?

I didn’t really notice a bunch of double-teaming (but I will admit to watching the ball most of the time, even though my dad always told me to watch the guards). It looked like the Clemson O-line was just forcing him to take an exaggerated outside rush.

On the few times I watched Young rather than the ball, at any rate.

Not surprised that Clemson won, figured it really could have went either way.

Last time I looked, the BGP poll was something like 17-15 Clemson.

29 to 7 Clemson over the last 2 1/2 quarters.

Thanks man, we banter a lot but you’re a genuine guy. A lot of adversity, some egregious calls but in the end still had a chance. I hope we get to see Fields and Lawrence one more time. Great season, I guess we still have Joe to root for.

You will be happy to know I am also coming around on Fields too. He definitely keeps showing me and more, and he honestly won me over even more today in the lost. I think most QBs will put up great numbers in that system at OSU and may only be able to do that at the college level. However, seeing how he as performed in big moments and throws he has made now. Definitely has started to win me over now too In terms of how he will be in the NFL too.

It is what it is, a few select people on here were waiting 14 weeks for OSU to lose. You just hope you never become that person. It takes everything away from how good college football really is.

:lol2:

Rooting for OSU to lose ruins college football? (For the record I haven't picked them to lose all year...I didn't make a prediction in this game.)

However Buckeye fans rooting against Michigan every single day doesn't?

I know it's still raw emotionally, especially when you think your team is the best and they get beat. Rivalries and having a rooting interest in a game doesn't ruin college football, it makes it better.
