December 25, 20196 yr What did Palmer win when he was a Bengal? Helped create excitement while he was after the horrible 90s. Brought them back to the playoffs with a true chance to win it all in 2005 before he hurt his knee. Won a second division title sweeping the division in 2009. It honestly sucks that he did leave and want out, because i think they actually do something in 2011 to 2015 with him at qb. He also did make the NFC championship while with the Cardinals. Two key injuries changed his career the knee injury in 2005 and then the injury that I think effected him even more was the elbow injury in 2008. He didn’t ever get the same zip on passes after that elbow injury.

December 25, 20196 yr So, he won nothing as a Bengal. You are like a battered spouse that constantly covers for their abusive husband sometimes. So I guess we should also say the same thing about Boomer and Kenny Anderson then? At the end of the day if asked what did they win, we should say nothing. Two qbs we also shouldn’t have had or wanted, since at the end of the day they didn’t accomplish the end goal. Got it. Nice reference though. Merry Christmas!
December 25, 20196 yr Perceptions being what they are, we need to move past Andy Dalton. He is stale and will create no new excitement in this city moving forward. We have to give the impression that we are trying to do something new and fresh to become winners. Building around Dalton (Dudley) isn't it.

Anderson and Boomer played in the Super Bowl. You insist on comparing them to guys that couldn't win a single playoff game as a Bengal. Mike, Katie, Troy and Duke are going to draft Joe Burrow. They don't actually care about rebuilding the roster as long as the vocal minority believes Burrow is the answer. Double digit loses next year and just good enough to miss on Trevor Lawrence.

Maybe have a chance at the playoffs in 2021, but the goal for me that I look for the to possibly have a shot depending on how good Burrow ends up being is 2022.

With today's contracts the way they are, the other pieces will be gone. The standard around the NFL every year is to try to get as many good players on the roster as possible and hope they stay healthy and fit together as a winning team. "Building for the future" seems more suited for baseball.
December 25, 20196 yr If the are stupid and do not want Joey B. they should trade down to the slot, to the player the player they want is projected to be taken.
December 25, 20196 yr They should draft the best player in CFB, at the position they need most. People are afraid of Joe because he isn’t a physical specimen. Joe is extremely cerebral and is going to catch on quickly. He’s a lot like Tony Romo. What’s the alternative, take Chase Young and tank again for Fields or Lawrence? Maybe the Bengals are semi competitive by 2022 or 2023? Edited December 25, 20196 yr by John Anthony

With Burrow he will be under a rookie contract for the next five years. IMO you make 2022 the goal, if you can get it done before that great. However, have 2022 as the goal to what you are building for. You can’t fix everything in one year, but you can go from bad to good in a year it happens a lot in the NFL. I’m talking about winning a Super Bowl goal not just making the playoffs again. Get Burrow and make 2022 the goal to where you are building for to truly go all out for it.

We are talking about the Mike Brown led Bengals correct? If anyone can screw things up, it is certainly him or any direct descendant of his.

You are missing my point. I'm saying the Bengals have a couple decent players to build around (and a lot of duds). The following is when certain players will be free agents (granted the Bengals will try to sign some of them, but they won't be able to keep all of them). 2020 - Green, Dennard, Eifert, Hopkins, Vigil, Billings, Wilson 2021 - Dalton, Glenn, Williams, Ross, Huber, Jackson, Erickson, Bullock, Mixon, Harris, Lawson, Glasgow, Evans My point is that teams play to stay competitive every year and hope for some luck to get in the playoffs in order to make a run. The Bengals have too many holes to stay competitive. The few good players they have may not make it to 2022. That's why it might (and I have might) make sense to grab as many players in the draft or free agency as possible. But the Bengals will probably draft Burrow because he will bring hope (as was said previously) and put people in seats. The Bengals ownership is about finances...winning is frosting on the cake.

All the things you said could have been said leading up to both the 2003 draft when they took Palmer and the 2011 draft when they took Green and then Dalton. In both cases they were horrible the year before. Yet by year three, they had built enough around them, that they truly had teams that could have made runs. Unfortunately the Palmer injury happened, and then 2013 losing to the Chargers and Dalton doing what he does in the playoffs. Usually it seems when teams draft a qb to be the guy, it is year three when that team truly has a chance to win it.

The Bengals certainly have a ton of holes. The one thing we know for certain is Dalton and Green are not going to be apart of the future, or hope. It’s certainly still a QB league, the chips fall from there. Burrow in theory would provide a 6-7 year window of opportunity, as Dalton did. If they don’t find a QB this year, they’re still going to be working on a frame without a block.
