That is some big praise, hopefully he is able to make it happen.

 

I saw him play in a couple of his freshman games, and it was definitely something to see. I expected to see him get a fair share of varsity PT this year, but he was sidelined with an injury for most of the season. I expect to see Nally and Stava double-teaming the run attack next year like Felix and Boydston did this year.

I have friends who are connected at Moeller and they feel Eviston would be foolish to accept a job there. They feel Moeller is in total disarray and always struggling to hang on to key people, sports or otherwise. Those in charge fired a very popular principal (I think they said his name was Collison), who now has Bishop Fenwick on the rise. An equally popular John Rodenberg was let go after winning two state championships, while Moeller has struggled ever since. LaSalle’s coach recently rejected the job as did another, though I can’t remember who they said the guy was. From what they tell me, it sounds like a toxic environment that Eviston doesn’t want to get involved in, especially considering how CCH really has it together in all phases.

You are definitely closer to the situation than me but from the several people I have talked to I agree with your take.

I don't know how popular Rodenberg was. The current slide started under his watch, with his last 3 teams going 13 - 18 and 0 - 1 in the playoffs. I understand both sides were ready for a change.

Moeller had really good Frosh team that went 9-1 and Sophomore class good also. Whoever coach is will have good team in couple of years.

I know some have questioned the talent and opportunity at Moeller but I have virtually zero doubt that with the right coach Moeller would be a state title contender annually.

 

As to the parents, alumni and sideshow, winning solves almost all of that. The same sideshow drama would happen at Cov Cath if they weren't winning.

When Moeller was Moeller the talent level was fantastic. They also had the ability to have out of state kids compete. They will improve, but never dominate like they did with Coach Faust. Also, the programs at many public schools are light years ahead of where they were then too.

His named popped up last week. From what I understand, Eviston did not interview.

With the amount of $$$ being pumped into CovCath, why would anyone leave That situation? Their “with a spirit that will not die” banner on back of stadium probably cost more than most programs yearly budget. I’d say he gets the most pay of any HS coach officially, and whatever else he needs unofficially. I mean they literally brought the famed Bob Hurleys assistant in for basketball. You think they won’t pony up more cash from the war chest to keep Eviston? Moeller is no longer the prestigious job it once was. To me, this rumor is comical.

 

Now going to the college level, at his alma Mater as someone else mentioned, that I could see happening if the opportunity presents itself. Until then, rest easy CCH fans and keep pumping $$$ in the war chest. You should be safe. :-)
