The most comical thing in this thread is all the comments about Moeller being a has been.

 

There are many comical assertions in this thread. People are going to people though.

With the amount of $$$ being pumped into CovCath, why would anyone leave That situation? Their “with a spirit that will not die” banner on back of stadium probably cost more than most programs yearly budget. I’d say he gets the most pay of any HS coach officially, and whatever else he needs unofficially. I mean they literally brought the famed Bob Hurleys assistant in for basketball. You think they won’t pony up more cash from the war chest to keep Eviston? Moeller is no longer the prestigious job it once was. To me, this rumor is comical.

 

Now going to the college level, at his alma Mater as someone else mentioned, that I could see happening if the opportunity presents itself. Until then, rest easy CCH fans and keep pumping $$$ in the war chest. You should be safe. :-)

Good to know someone else around here has the whole story on that. There's a thread from a long way back that hints at bits and pieces of how the hire came about, but not many folks seem to have the complete picture around NKY.

The War chest reference wasn’t meant to be derogatory, just means that they have the money to do whatever is needed whenever it is needed. CCH is an excellent example of successful fundraising, alumni involvement, and preparing for the future. All I was saying is I have no doubt they are always one step ahead financially, especially in a planning sense, and have thought about protection of their programs. One walk around that campus and you know they have their you know what together nowadays. NKY Diocesean schools just don’t have that money without strong support. Visit Holy Cross or Newport Catholic and you will know what I mean.

 

And my overall point was why would anyone leave CCH for Moeller given current states of both programs? No way I see CCH letting that happen.

Considering that, as well as they had a good coach already in place (Listerman), it makes us “not in the blue blood know” look at things a little different maybe? Just saying not everyone sees things like Colonels do.

For starters, Coach Listerman was already gone from Cov Cath (mandatory reading). So there was a coaching search that was well under way before any discussion with Coach Ruthsatz came about.

 

Coach Ruthsatz had been looking to move his wife and family closer to home in Sandusky, OH. He had a conversation with Chris Mack (then at Xavier) in the days immediately prior to Cov Cath's interview cut-off date and was tipped off about the job. After he found out about the job and the school, he immediately called Cov Cath athletic director Mike Guidugli to see about interviewing and was told "sorry, the last day of our interview process is tomorrow, so it looks like you're too late". Scott essentially went directly out to his car, and drove straight to northern Kentucky so he could interview in the morning. Showed up with credentials exceeding all of Cov Cath's expectations and a C02 distribution company under his ownership which allowed him to look for a job that would make money far less of an object.

 

Coach Ruthsatz essentially showed up on the Cov Cath hiring committee's doorstep and gave them an offer they couldn't refuse.

Back to football, lol, my original point was CCH is poised to retain whomever is successful. They have done things the right way to build a sustainable program. Now that the Moeller coaching position has been filled, and Eviston stayed put despite the rumors, hopefully more understand that CCH is now a premier program, and destination. Just my two cents.

 

On another note, from a guy who works from home a lot and travels for work, it’s nice to experience water cooler talk. Truly hope no one gets offended by my comments / points. I’ve really enjoyed BGP since joining, and love these conversations. Whether we agree on everything or not, they are healthy and fun!

You're good! Folks like you are what make this site what it is and keep the discussions going. There are always comments that are going to make for debate or discussion...and sometimes there are moans and groans from folks - you only need to take a look at my football power rankings for that to be perfectly clear :lol2: - but I think everyone is more than happy to have anyone on here who's willing to have a little back and forth in earnest.
