I was coming here to post something similar. Stinson and Hergott are both great quarterbacks (with slightly different skill sets), but Stinson has the superior group of pass catchers to work with. Neely, Daniel, and Perry were Stinson's go-to guys last year, as well. It's a deep, experienced receiving corps. They give Mayfield a big check mark in that column.

Haven’t seen the Mayfield kid play, but I have seen Hergott a few times. When I see the Mayfield kid rollout to his left and throw a 20 yd dart down the field to a receiver who toe taps the sideline, I’ll believe Ya. �� Kid has a great arm. Threads the needle all the time. Should be a great matchup.

 

I'm pretty confident in saying the Stinson kid from Mayfield is one of the top 5 pocket passers in state, all classes. Is he going to take off running on you? No. So a good mobile QB that has a decent arm can make up some ground on him. But just as far as arm talent goes I assure you he will be the best quarterback on the field Friday, just as he has been every Friday up to this point in his career.

If I need to escape a rush or keep a Defense honest with the QB keep, then Hergott is my man.

 

Can't go wrong with either...

 

With that said, give me Mayfield's skill guys and OLine 10 times out 10 over Beechwood's. I think that is the difference in this game. Kade Neely may be the best overall player in this game and not either QB.

IMO Kade has been the best all around player on the field in every game this year. Looking forward to see him develop even more at Louisville. I’ll be at this game Friday night, War Memorial is a tough place to play and look for these seniors to take advantage of their last home game. I’ll take Mayfield 49-28

For all the flack Mayfield’s defense has received, it’s really been a pretty solid group outside of the McCracken and the Madisonville games, and Beechwood does not bring the offensive line, running backs or receivers that those teams did.

Interesting to note all 5 of the Cincinnati Enquirer's high school prognosticators went with Mayfield in this one.

One of the coolest tidbits about this game in my opinion is that it is an extremely rare matchup of 2 teams that both have 12+ State Championships to their names. Two amazing programs.

My comment about Hergott wasn’t triggered by yours. I get the Stinson kid is good. But my comment was because Hergott gets classified as a running QB mainly, and that’s not the case. Can he/will he run? Absolutely. But until I saw him play in person a couple times I myself had no idea how strong his arm was. He can roll opposite and throw across field with accuracy and strength. That all I was saying.

 

Should be a good game.

Travel day and game day all in one for the Tigers. This game is a challenge only equaled by Beechwood's games versus Covington Catholic and Somerset. This is a young Beechwood team. I cannot remember the last time Beechwood had two freshmen playing key roles with the starting lineups. More than half the starting players are sophomores and freshmen. All those young players now have a season of experience.

 

Beechwood played its best game of the year last week versus West Carter. They will need to play even better today to hang with Mayfield. They need to finish drives, prevent Mayfield from having big plays and win the turnover battle. The last time a young Beechwood team no one expected to win a final four game played was four years ago. That team shocked everyone, including most Tiger fans by overcoming their youth and winning a state title. Beechwood fans have to hope for the same today. It will be a shocker if they win but stranger things have happened.

 

The things we know are Beechwood will be well coached and disciplined. They will execute the game plan to the best of their ability. The will believe in each other and fight their hearts out for each other. When you do all those things, great things can happen. Go Tigers!
