I just don’t see a scenario the Purples get clocked, but that’s why they turn the lights on every Friday night. Expect it to be physical. Colonels have the best Run D around but for whatever reason, I think Bowling Green runs the ball 20-25 times anyway. How successful that is remains to be seen, but it’s been their bread and butter.

They have made their living the last two weeks, like most teams that advance this far in Kentucky when the weather is drastically different now than it is in August/September, by running the football.

 

In the 2nd half last week vs South Oldham, they only attempted to throw it twice in the 2nd half.

I concur. I guess my point is that it’ll be interesting to watch strength versus strength. I don’t get the impression that they will shy away from pounding the rock just based on the fact that the Colonels have been solid up front this year. At the same point, I’m sure the colonel defense openly welcomes the challenge of playing a physical brand of football. Should be fun!

I’ve watched CC vs LexCath. I think BG has a speed advantage especially in the skill vs Secondary positions. CC QB delivers a nice ball and Maher is almost impossible to defend. As I previously said I think this will be closer than most expect.

I previously said 24-14 CovCath. I would NOT be shocked if Bowling Green won the game. I initially thought Bowling Green's Defense would keep them in it. After watching CovCath's secondary, I think the Purples offense can do some damage. It's not as if they are bad at all, just that the Purples have some athletes who I believe can do damage in open space. LexCath had success on short throws as it looked like Cov Cath's strategy was to force short throws and come up and tackle. That may be the wrong way to look at Bowling Green. I will be shocked if it's a blowout. I'm really thinking 28-21 Purples right now. Bowling Green has been dominating the last decade plus. They expect to win.

No one has been able to run on CovCath this year, including a GREAT LaSalle team from Ohio. If Bowling Green can run the ball, they will be the first, and will have a great chance to win the game. If they are one-dimensional, they aren't going to win.

Again, I don’t think anyone is insisting that they are going to run all over Covington Catholic. The fact remains that it is still the strength of the Purples and don’t be surprised to see them be run heavy on drives anyway.

 

Which in this point of the season, game plan to your strengths and give it your best shot with an approach that you can stand by. I’m sure all Purples fans can live with the result.

You can look to the LexCath game to emulate what they did on offense against CovCath, but the problem with that is Beau Allen isn't your quarterback.

BG isn’t my team. Of course Allen is phenomenal but I was looking more at the ability of LexCath Receivers vs CCH secondary. My eye test tells me better skill players for BG as compared to CCH secondary. This is mainly from a speed standpoint. You are correct in that the QB has to deliver the ball, but if BG skill players are allowed to catch short balls all night, I think they will have success. That said CC has the most impressive win in beating Lasalle and I think the Colonels believe they will win as well. No easy games for anyone in 5A.
