November 15, 20196 yr The guy pretty much said all the right things in the post-game interview. But if you do that out on the street and not within the confines of a football game, it's assault.
November 15, 20196 yr With seconds to go in the game, Garrett ripped Mason Rudolph's helmet off then hit him in the head with it. Is he done for the year? Is that really a question?
November 15, 20196 yr Author Is that really a question? Yep. Has he ever been suspended before? Has he had any fines or other reprimands by the league? No doubt it was a stupid and dangerous act. If he had dropped the helmet and just swung with his fist, he probably wouldn't have more than a one game suspension. But he did swing the helmet. If he is done for the year, it is more about making an example of him for the future and trying to prevent it from ever happening again than punishing a problem player.
November 15, 20196 yr Probably 8 games, or something like that. Pretty bad stuff, for sure. It also shouldn't be ignored that Mason Rudolph tried to rip his helmet off first, and Pouncey kicked him in the head while he was on the ground. Baker Mayfield's post-game interview was spot on. As a team, they continue to do things that hurt themselves.

As a team, they continue to do things that hurt themselves. Nobody is ignoring it, but Rudolph tried to rip his helmet off after being driven to the ground on a late hit and held there by Garrett. What Rudolph did is irrelevant. Myles Garrett should be done for the year, if not longer. That is assault.
November 15, 20196 yr With 8 seconds to go Garrett ruined a Cleveland victory over the Steelers. It takes a LOT to ruin a Browns win over the Steelers, but he has. The incident happened when Rudolph dropped back to pass with Garrett closing in. Garrett was so close to getting a sack that he didn't see Rudolph throw the ball. He came in chest high, wrapped his arms around the QB and wrestled him to the ground. Rudolph took exception to that since he no longer had the ball. While on the ground and still in Garrett's grasp, words were exchanged as Rudolph began to fight back to get Garrett to release him. Rudolph began to pull at Garrett's helmet as if to rip it off. Garrett then got a hold of Rudolph's helmet and ripped it off his head. They were standing up at this point and Garrett was pretty much surrounded by Pittsburgh players who were protecting their QB and threatening Garrett and physically keeping him back. Rudolph continued to jaw and act aggressively. Garrett, with a Steeler player between him and Rudolph, swung the helmet and hit the QB on top of the head. OL DeCastro pushed Garrett to the ground falling on top of him with Pouncey kicking Garrett in the head. In the background, Cleveland's Ogunjobi bumped Rudolph from behind knocking him to the ground. That was the ugly scene. Had Garrett stopped after pulling off Rudolph's helmet, the Pittsburgh QB would have been the instigator and aggressor in the whole situation. But what Garrett did then is beyond the pale. He needs to be suspended and will be. I think Pouncey should receive some sort of disciplinary action (perhaps a fine) for kicking another player in the head, though I can understand why he did it. In his mind, he was defending his teammate, but in reality, he was trying to punish Garrett for his actions in a violent manner too. This was a violent ending that seemed to come out of nowhere with 8 seconds on the clock. It was no longer football. It became a brawl. As a Brown's fan, I am embarrassed by Garrett's actions.
November 15, 20196 yr Using a helmet as a weapon is specifically in the rules, he needs to sit the rest of the season. In my opinion, anything that happened to him after striking Rudolph with a helmet is fair game (within reason). He probably deserved to get kicked and punched by Rudolph's teammate.
November 15, 20196 yr I saw a list of players who've been suspended for 4 games or more due to non substance abuse issues. There were 39 incidents on the list. Thirty-six of those were for off the field conduct. Three were for on-field violations. 2006 Albert Haynesworth was suspended 5 games for stomping on Dallas C Andre Gurode. Haynesworth was also suspended 5 games in 2010 for conduct detrimental to the team. 2015 IK Enemkpali suspended 4 games for breaking Geno Smith's jaw. But that was in the locker room not on the field. 2019 Vontaze Burfict suspended 12 games for repeated violations of player safety policies. I think Miles Garrett's suspension will be closer to the Burfict range. The NFL is less tolerant now than it was before. Haynesworth's actions were pretty aggregious. He would get more than 4 games today. Garrett may even be looking at a full season suspension. Edited November 15, 20196 yr by oldgrappler typos
November 15, 20196 yr I think they should suspend him the rest of the season, but he may only get four games. I wouldn't suspend Pouncey but he'll probably get a game or two.
November 15, 20196 yr I think something has to be done to Rudolph as well. Does any of this start without his actions? What would he had done if he had removed Myles' helmet? We don't know, but he wasn't going to rip it off and then hand it back to him.
November 15, 20196 yr While i think it deserves 12 games, I am not going to be shocked when its only 4. Enough to keep him out of the next Cleveland/Pittsburgh matchup on November 28th.
November 15, 20196 yr I think they should suspend him the rest of the season, but he may only get four games. I wouldn't suspend Pouncey but he'll probably get a game or two. I think Pouncey did what most would do in backing up his QB, but he has to get a suspension too. He punched and kicked a guy who was being held on the ground by another player. Even if he basically had that coming I think he should get no more than 25% of whatever Garrett gets.
