Once he was clearly stopped it was a smart play to fumble it forward.

Get a clue? You have no clue. A players number one responsibilty with the ball in his hands is not to fumble the ball.

Fumble on purpose? Come on now. Any football player with half a brain would not have tried to fumble on purpose on that play.

 

 

Why not? He knew he was stopped, what can it hurt? Something good may come out of it. I see it happen quite often actually.

Not when it's 4th down and you know you've been stopped. The #1 responsibility is getting the 1st down. The players on the field (on both sides) agreed with this and made numerous remarks about it after the game.

Good night everyone. Congratulation to the Coaches and players from Mercer. I'm out of here before I get booted.

Obviously we have differing opinions on the subject but do you honestly think the QB had enough time to think in his head during the play, ok, try for the first down, oh ok, im stopped, I think I should fumble the ball on purpose, maybe that will work? I dont quite think so, but you can keep telling yourself that, if it makes you feel better.

OK, he keeps the ball in his hands and hes stopped. Russell then has the ball on the 1 yards line.

 

He fumbles and Russell gets it in the end zone for a touchback, then they have the ball on the 20. Once again, Ill take my chances with protecting the football.

Now, a few observations: The "D" in this Devils team stands for defense and they demonstrated that in a big way today. Again, Coach Morris had the right scheme in place to contain a very gifted and athletic Mercer Co backfield. On offense, you don't win very many games when you turn the ball over like we did today. I think we would have been better served to have let Kasey take over the game with the run. With that kind of wind gusting the passing plays obvioulsy did more damage than good. This was perfect weather for a grind it out until they stop you type of offense. Finally, there aren't many times when a moral victory provides any solace, however, the effort and heart shown in this particular game will always be remembered as such.

Last I heard with Clark it was Illinois or Cincinnati with both wanting him to play Safety. With Cincy's Coach leaving I don't know where the leaves him with the Bearcats. Maybe someone more close to the situation can enlighten us?
