First of all, great game by both teams. I am always going to pull for a local team and have become quite the Russell fan in the past few years with their deep playoff runs. I have one question about the game.

 

On Mercer's first score, they went for it on 4th down, and scored off of a recovered fumble in the endzone. Am I wrong by saying that the score shouldn't have been granted? I thought on forth down the only person offense eligible to advance a fumble was the person who fumbled?

 

Anyway, that was it.

 

I want to congratulate both teams on a great game and great seasons. The game was fun to listen to.

Why does it seem that in 2a in particular all you have to do is run, and you can win?

 

Not just run, but run well !!

 

And... in this game, getting 5 turnovers was more a factor than "keeping it on the ground" for Mercer's victory.

Anyone know Mercer's rushing total for the 2nd half? Russell seemed to move the ball well in the 3rd quarter, they got inside Mercer's 30 a couple of times but could never finish it off. Terrific D by both teams, Russell really impressed me, they gave up 2 big plays, but shut Mercer down other than that.

First of all Congratulations to all the Mercer Coaches and Players you guys really earned that win. You played very well and are a class act. I saw kids on both teams helping the other up off the turf. This was a hard fought game and as everyone saw could have gone either way. Mercer was the best team today. Enjoy your well earned state championship. You are the champs for the next year be proud of it.

 

The Russell players did everything possible to win. They left it all out on the field right up to the last play of the game. We Red Devil supporters are very proud of you and thank you for another wonderful year of watching high school football.

 

Now lets go play some round ball.

Just got back ....

 

Kids on both teams played very hard .... both teams sold out ....

 

Devils seniors, coaches and kids that won last year have to be very frustrated. These winners didn't perform at their best , didn't have any fortunate bounces or calls and only came up short by 3 points ...

 

Without detailing any specific events ( yet) , this group of Devils deserves high praise , for consistent , year after year performance at a very high level ...

Be proud of yourselves ..... you earned respect over several seasons fair and square - no matter whoever lines up across the field ...

 

Those that have been following these kids up thru JFL knew this was going to be a very close game into the fourth , because these kids have talent, are proud and play hard nosed football.

 

Thanks for the ride over the past several seasons , look forward to next years " Meet the Devils " ....

Anybody know why Mercer Co. had to kick off at the start of both halfs? Somebody said it was Mercers fault, but I never got a good explanation.

 

You know I'm not sure what happened on that. Although a little bird told me that the coach messed up.
