Mr. Football

Featured Replies

After the show Minnifield put friday night it would be hard for some voters to vote for some one else. You guys have to realize that he doesn't get the touches like the other top players get around 15 a game

Right...but Petrino had more all-purpose yards...6 TD's and the win.

Nick's overall stats are pretty darned good, and without him we are likely not in this position right now.

No argument, however I can think of 8 teams that make such a claim right now...should they all be Mr. Football candidates?

Wow a one man team! Now that's what I call talent. Give him the prize.

It also shouldn't be given to a player who plays multiple positions because the team doesn't have a player to fill those shoes or chooses not to allow someone to fill those shoes. It should be given to the player that shows they have contributed the most for the teams wins. Strength of schedule should also play a factor. You can look like a star if you don't have any competition.

No question that Male probably has a player or two who could fill the positions Beaumont plays on both sides of the ball. I would beg someone who has watched him play (from the 5th/6th grade) to say that they DID not see him as a potential superstar. He plays every play as hard as anyone I have seen as a "one way" player. I am sure there are others I HAVE NOT been privy to see play as well. I just find it hard to believe there are MANY others who could stack up the performances Beaumont has against like competition.

He will be a sight to watch in college. As some have said he could be just as big a star on defense but he has so many tools to offer on offense and special teams. He lays the wood when he tackles on defense and also has that "lean" and ability to break tackles when he runs the ball. You do not see him take on solid shots hardly ever, when you do he usually falls forward.

I will get off the Beaumont bandwagon for now, just feel like he is a notch above some of the others mentioned in this race for Mr. Football who I HAVE seen play. (I have not seen them all of course).

Someone in the know sent me this:

Mr. Football - We should learn the finalists early this week and then the voting

takes place. Likely to be announced the week after the finals this season.

AP had tried to do it finals week in the past!

What were Beaumont's final stats on the season? I've just been wondering...

How many finalist will be named?4??

If people are going to mention all of these other players for Mr. Football. I think that Jordan Kramer from HHS needs to be mentioned as well...:ylsuper: :ylsuper:

Ya IMO kramer is more deserving then Nick Patrino, not bashing him still a very good player. My pick is Vic Anderson I still think he is the best player in the state

Like it or not...this has the potential to garner more votes for the finalists...maybe even Nick Petrino.

Yeah, it could; because I think Petrino will have a great game against the Radiers Thursday night.

I don't have all Beaumont's or Anderson's stats, but to compare as runningbacks, below is each of their rushing stats against common opponents: To make a viable comparison a statistical analysis needs to have a common component (in this case a common opponent) therefore, I have not listed stats when each played different repspective opposition, as those stats would not have the common component for comparison.

Beaumont

PRP 8carries/80yards 10ypc

Iroquois 10carries/201yards 20.1ypc

Butler 5carries/108yards 21.6ypc

Manual 15carries/49yards 3.2ypc

Trinity 15carries/73yards 4.9ypc

Anderson

PRP 9carries/168yards 18.6ypc

Iroquois 2carries/53yards 26.5ypc

Butler 9carries/210yards 27.3ypc

Manual 10carries/116yards 11.6ypc

Trinity 16carries/65yards 4ypc (10:44 1st qtr game over)

I agree with the strength of schedule argument, but it also punishes a kid like Kasey, the KHSAA made us play 7 (can't think of a word without offending someone) teams, in comparison to those that are in the final 8. He could be somewhere around 3000yds all purpose and 80td's this season, but sometimes he only got a handful or rushes in a game, and would still get 5 td's. Im rooting for him, but I believe with the tough defenses we've played, and with them putting 9-10 guys in the box, his stats from the last 2 games will hurt. Good Luck to all. Havent seen any of the others mentioned on here play.

Winning a championship doesn't get you "Mr. Football" (or for that matter even playing most of your HS career in KY)...think back to last year's finalists and the ultimate winner.

You are correct. If that was the case, then Justin Burke would have won it last year. Maybe it depends on what college you choose?

When is enough, enough? Your clock guy gave you one extra down. I didn't say that Doug would make that choice. It just might work out that way. I'd say that is fair.

Baloney. Watch the video.

Alabama Larry, H: Regarding the T v. Male game, given that the game ended third and goal from the one, is it your belief that Male would win if they played again? Also, if the playoff schedule was reversed, and Male played Southern and Ballard leading up to the Trinity game and Trinity played PRP and X leading up to the Male game, do you believe the results would have been the same?
