What has happened to my Frisch's Big Boy?

That is what I was going to say, I dread getting out of the Kyles Lane location.   Dream Street is easy in, easy out, great I75 access, several other places to eat right by it, etc.  And that building is not too old in this context.  I think that may be one that gets saved and I suppose time will tell.

The 18 and Turfway location (6808 Burlington Pike) was one of my go to places when I was working.  I hate to see it go and that is a fantastic piece of real estate.

Any closure at the corner of two major roads surprises me.

My wife and I visited Independence Frisch’s one day last week at 12:30.  One server, one cook and one food server/bus person.  Probably 10 of us in there and nobody very happy.  Someone previously men

Does anyone know when the latest set of closures takes effect?  I passed by the 3L location last night and there were cars in the parking lot.

That location seems to stay pretty busy. I have driven past there several times in the past month or two and there were always a good number of cars in the lot.

That's our nearest location to our home, yet that is one that is on the closure list.

With all of the Frisch’s restaurants closing, I just had to indulge! Going to miss them.

For what is worth.  Had lunch at Indepence location and they told me it was closing on 12/17.  One server told me Highland Heights, Ft. Wright (Madison Pike) and Airport (??? didn’t even know it existed) were all remaining open.

Note the 5 1/2 year length of this thread.  Kind of parallels the death spiral of many of us old timers. My first Frisch’s experience would have been in 1960 at the 1st Newport location across from Newport Shopping Center.  My go to was of course Big Boy platter and coke.

I have been saying for a while, this is all about real estate. This article details what's happening. The equity company owner sold the real estate at 74 of the 121 locations and went into a leaseback deal with annual  escalating rent costs. Rent is 38% higher today at those locations. Between COVID and escalating rents that will continue to increase annually for another 10 years, doesn't look good unless Frisch's uses bankruptcy or negotiates new leases from the REIT that owns the real estate. I have to believe they have already tried to renegotiate.

The Ft. Wright 3L location is closing 12/23 according to the dining room manager (we ate there last night).  The "other" Ft. Wright location at the top of Highland near Dixie Hwy will remain open for now.

I think the Bellevue location may be safe for now. I have not seen it listed in any of the articles.

The 2 in Lexington got closed down last week.

The ole McDonald's model, lol.

Got a Big Boy combo for lunch. Drive thru. Fast service and food was excellent. Drive thru was busy.
