What has happened to my Frisch's Big Boy?

Featured Replies

I heard that the former location on Orphanage Rd and Madison (3L) will be turned into a Dolly's.  Any truth to that?

My wife and I visited Independence Frisch’s one day last week at 12:30.  One server, one cook and one food server/bus person.  Probably 10 of us in there and nobody very happy.  Someone previously men

Looking at the Dolly's menu online, it appears to be very similar to the Frisch's menu, but there are definite differences.  I have no idea about quality.

Been using that Madison Pike location for Chick-Fil-Le parking.  Solved a nightmare after post soccer pickups.

I was looking for CFA to buy that location and build a bigger store.

Oh my bad, thought you were a developer bird-dogging for a mysterious entity looking at that corner.?

Just jumping in on this.  I always loved Frisch's!  The food is great and it always looked busy.  I'm not sure how it went out of bussiness.  I don't care if they change the name to Big Boy or Dolly's, as long as I can get my cheesburger with tarter sauce and hot fudge cake!

Well you have two "Big Boy" restaurants the way I understand it.  The Frisch's Big Boy (which Frisch's sold a few years ago) and the Big Boy (Dolly's for Cincy metro area until court cases get settled between them and the Frisch's Big Boy folks, as I understand it) chain based out of Michigan.  Both have similar menu items but as I also understand it they are different.  (And of course Shoney's is also close to the Big Boy restaurants and their menu and their Shoney burger looks exactly like a Big Boy but uses some sort of thousand island style sauce).  You almost need a playbook/roster any more.  (We ate at a Frisch's in Corbin KY, it was good but my wife swore the tarter sauce was not the same.)  Anyway, that's how I understand it. ?

Went to Highland Heights Frisch’s yesterday.  Big Boys far better than before closing…meat patties had some thickness and filled the whole fresh bun.  Cole slaw entirely different.  Waitress told me they have no access to old purveyors and are buying from new suppliers.

Had they closed for a while and then reopened?

Not sure.  Was always told they were scheduled to survive along with Ft. Wright and airport.

Just saw this topic was started July 2019.  That is 6 years of watching the demise of a restaurant chain that has volumes of memories that go back over 7 decades for some of us.  So sad.
