It's not a stretch to say he'll be CC's starting running back, they graduated many seniors and the upcoming senior class is very weak. To say he'll be one of the top RB's in NKY is a major reach. I hope you prove me wrong.

Joe Buten of Highlands. Probably the only RB to have the most success against CovCath in 2018 from NKY. And he was only a Soph! Excited to see what the next couple of years brings for #26.

Cooper Schwalbach was a Senior this past year. He has a younger brother that will be a Senior this coming year but plays Linebacker only. So Buten only.

McGinness finished the season with 2,140 rushing yards last season, and had almost 2,000 more yards rushing than any other varsity ball carrier for Cov Cath last year. Daniel Felix and Michael Boydston were both hard runners on the few occasions they got the ball (they might have 25 carries between the two of them), but it seemed to me that they were used in more of a power back capacity.

 

Jadon Stava was the starting halfback for the Cov Cath freshman team and was brought up for varsity once the freshman season ended. He even had a few carries during the playoffs. Stava was electric out of the backfield during freshman games. I definitely expect to see Cov Cath working on developing Jadon next year.

I doubt that Coach Wolf cheated any player on his team out of playing time. If there was ever a coach I know that played kids who deserved to be playing it is him!!!

Perrin from Scott definitely has the physical tools. I liked what I saw in the scrimmage against Boone last August. England from Ryle also could have a good year. He had a couple of games early in the season against Lexington Catholic and Boone that you would expect him to have most weeks. But for most of the season his output was down. It makes me think he was playing with a nagging injury for the better part of the season, though I have no knowledge of that.

 

I hope he will be healthy and at full strength next August and have the kind of season he is capable. I am certainly rooting for him.

That would be so Cov Cath. It seems they always replace a senior with a sophomore at key positions. And it works because then your team is an ongoing tapestry of fully utilized careers. By the time those guys are seniors they are far superior to other seniors with similar skill and less experience.

He looks like a solid RB, but the best since Frisk?? That is a strong statement, considering Highlands ALWAYS has good running backs. I can’t remember the names of more then a handful of them, but for example: better than Collinsworth?

There has some great RBs since Frisk: Ulbricht, Gibson, Zenni, Gramstad, Mitchell, Peterman , Kramer, Conner, Collinsworth, Compton, Harris, Urlage, Kendall. Those are some studs to compare to at RB. I’d say Ulby, Collinsworth, Conner and Harris are a tier above the rest.

 

I think the thing about Buten that makes me think he is not only up there with that group but maybe better is what a year he had as a sophomore. He emerged as the best RB on the team with a really good multiple year starting senior RB on the team. In the Cov Cath game , vs the best defense they faced all year, he looked like he just couldn’t be tackled by one guy. I am interested to see how he develops. Especially with a new OC and a veteran OLine.

CCH will have 4 capable RB's. Felix, Boydston, Stava were all mentioned above, and Owen Nally is another great athlete that battled injuries this year. Felix filled in at LB after an injury, and played very well. His performance on defense may keep him on that side of the ball. Nally is a stout athlete as well, and could play more on the defensive side.
