Colonels face explosive foe.... Eagles run game, among state's best....

"On game day, Colonel D is perfect D."

Those words, the motto of the Covington Catholic defense, will hold even more meaning than usual when Colonels defensive coordinator Jim Hautman relays them to his unit in the locker room shortly before taking the field against Johnson Central in their Class AAA state semifinal game Friday in Paintsville.

Very nice read...thanks. :thumb:

JC's field was colored and striped today. It looks to be in really good shape.

What color crayons did they use?:jump: Sorry, couldn't resist. Thanks for getting it ready for us. Is this something they do before every game?

No, we use markers now!:D

Seriously though, it is done before every game.

I was going to get "offended," before I realized that this was just a topic beyond your experience. Yes, we do it before every game because GRASS doesn't come pre-marked, as the fields you have played on do. And the crayons that might work on turf don't do a thing for grass. We tried doing it after the game, but after much thought concluded it should be done before, for the referee's sake if no one elses. ;) But if you want to think it's 'specially done for you, you are welcome to.

Seriously, this is good news because the last few weeks the red zone at each end has been so wet that the markings weren't very visible by half time. Our field is bermuda grass and mostly brown now, so it won't be quite as colorful as you city slickers might expect, but the playing conditions should be good for both teams.

Article from the Paintsville Herald on CovCath/JC game:

Ready For Battle

The Johnson Central football squad will again make school history tonight as the team welcomes Covington Catholic to Eagleville for a Class AAA state semifinal game.

Tonight’s matchup marks the Golden Eagles’ first final four appearance in the state football tournament.

The No. 2 Golden Eagles have been flying high this season and bring a perfect 13-0 record into tonight’s game. While Johnson Central has been making noise in the mountains, Covington Catholic has had its own share of dramatic wins.

The No. 4 Colonels boast a 10-3 record, with their three losses coming at the hands of Ohio opponents Cincinnati Elder (13-3), Cincinnati St. Xavier (23-3) and Bishop Watterson (38-13).

I want to wish the Golden Eagle the best of luck tomorrow night in their battle with CCath. Let's let everyone know where Eastern Kentucky is and have two mountain teams in the State Championship next Friday. Even though I will be watching my Pirates and the Red Devils we will be thinking of you all as you beat CCath. Next Friday Pirates at 11:30AM and Golden Eagles at 7:30PM.

Let's go Pirates and Golden Eagles!!!:fire: :fire: :fire:

All the way to state!:dancingpa

Also, slide show from Ashland/JC game with some nice shots:

Ashland/JC regional final

Thanks for the links, Colonel-fan! Some new avatars may be born from these slides. Great shots of Ratliff, Griim and Taylor as well as the Ashland players.

Thanks grayeagle. Took the words right off my fingertips. :D
