Conner Coach Resigns

Featured Replies

And as far as on topic goes, I want to say congrats to Coach Stellman for a wonderful career. I know he'll miss it once he's done, maybe even come back one day? I personally have always enjoyed his demeanor and tone, whether it be in person or in the paper.

Coach Stellman is a great guy he will be missed a ton. If i was Conner I would be pushing for Coach Yeagle rather then the other coaches but thats my opinion. If he is even slightly interested go get em.

While I don't know his name, isn't there a coach on the Beechwood staff that has some ties to Conner?:D

Would he be interested?

What kind of turf does Conner have? Coach Yeagle didn't stay at Beechwood to long after the fake stuff was put in. He probably prefers grass.

;)

Doesn't Jeremy Fischer from Beechwood have ties to Conner? I may be wrong, but doesn't he coach track for the Cougars? What kind of considerations will he have?

Knock the silly stuff off.

In addition to hearing Coach Yeagle is interested I hear there is a lot of support for Sheriff Helmig to take over as the next head coach. It should be interesting folks, stay tuned.

That would be interesting...to say the least.

Ha, ha!

That is a good one! That guy has no business coaching football anywhere. . . . he should stick to Track and Cross Country . . . .

The only thing that I am going to say is that Tom Stellman is a great man. He is a great friend--and a great mentor. Outside of my parents and family, there are few who have done as much for me as Tom has. I have learned a great deal from Tom--and I am just happy that he is still going to be around Conner. For me--this stinks to high heaven.

The best part is--he will probably making fun of me for writing that--but I don't care . . . . the truth is the truth--no matter how you slice and dice it.

Tom Stellman, the Conner football coach for the past 16 years, resigned Thursday at the team's year-end banquet.

Stellman, the second-longest tenured coach in Northern Kentucky, posted an 84-96 record. He coached the Cougars to 10-0 regular seasons and district titles in 2003 and 2004. They won the Enquirer Northern Kentucky coaches' poll title in 2003.

"It's time," Stellman said before the banquet.

"I won't be involved at all (in the hiring process)," he said. "We don't need a Stellman man. We need someone new and fresh."

This is an interesting quote:

In my opinion, that statement clearly means no one on the current staff should get the job according to Stellman which would mean he doesn't think Sheriff Helmig should get the job.

I didn't quite read it that way. I think Mike Helmig will be seriously considered and I don't think the fact that he was on Tom's staff would hurt his chances. I read it as Tom won't be involved and won't exert any influence.

I guess that is business is usual, more Stellman quotes and nobody knows what he is saying.

This will definitely be an interesting hiring process to say the least. I give my vote to Coach Lickert. What he has done with Dayton has been nothin short of impressive.
