Nobody on here has ever done anything dumb or stupid before apparently, so they wouldn't know.

 

So that's all this is? A bunch of high school kids (in some cases likely over 18 and adults) being stupid? To me this is indictive of a much bigger, deeper, nastier problem than a bunch of kids being stupid who are now in trouble because someone happened to catch it on film. This being filmed isn't the problem. The fact that it happened at all, and continues to happen is the problem. Even though a great many people want to keep telling minorities that it's not happening, or to stop being so politically correct.

Nothing you said means it is harder to grow up today because of the internet. Know how to avoid your “mistakes” being all over the internet? Don’t be racist.

 

Ok man I guess just telling your kids not to be racist solves everything. Most kids are dumb and make mistakes. Most kids are insecure and can be manipulated by the group around them. This is a really bad case and guidance failed these on a number of levels. But they are kids, kids deserve a second chance. No one died. Give them a boat load of community service. And Cov Cath should pay for that man that was disrespected to come to their school to speak, and put him up in nicest place in town.

I am not sure the appropriate punishment, but I kinda think expulsion might be too much. I don't know.

Off topic, but community service would only be an option if a crime was committed.

You're right. I don't know these kids. And I don't know if they are racists. But I know racist behavior and actions when I see them. As a Native American who lives in the Covington area, this whole thing hits a little close to home. Sorry, but you better believe I'll be a little less comfortable when I'm on that campus or coaching against Cov Cath teams.

Not what anyone is saying. When kids do dumb stuff, they should be called out on it, not defended or dismissed as “kids will be kids.” I never did anything to this degree but I remember as a five year old accidentally stealing a candy bar by putting it in my mom’s purse. When we got home and she found it, she called the store manager who was all “don’t worry about it.” Not my mom. She drove us back to that store and made me pay for that candy bar and explain to the manager why you shouldn’t take things without paying for them. It was a lesson that stuck with me.

 

Kids do things wrong and they deserve to be taught and learn from their mistakes.

Getting caught with a fake ID or sneaking a drive in Dad’s car and getting in a fender bender is doing something stupid. That’s about being a kid.

This incident is about being a human being.

You're right. I don't know these kids. And I don't know if they are racists. But I know racist behavior and actions when I see them. The actions make me uncomfortable and I’m white. Terrible actions, I just believe for the level of crime (ish) acts committed these kids have already paid a lot. They are kids and have a terrible label painted on them. That said they should have to pay in some other way other way too. You can’t deface the state of Kentucky and get off Scott free. Getting kicked out of school shouldn’t be the answer. Community Service could be handed out by school in lue of expulsion. Community Service is not fun. Every time you show up you are reminded about your mistakes.
