November 12, 200619 yr Author ^ I didn't bring it up rook...a Cats fan did..thanks for playing. Now now children... lets play nice
November 12, 200619 yr There will still be a lot of UK fans that won't be happy even with the teams first bowl birth in 7 years. I think we will land another solid recruiting class this year with going to a bowl game and recruits will know that Brooks will still be here.

Thats what is so hard to deal with.....UK fans still not satisfied. I mean who does everyone want as a coach.......to me Brooks has done a good job with the parts he was left! I think he knows his career is almost over so I don't think UK fans should worry about that. He came here to turn it around...he has so I think you have to offer an extension......for the future coaches to see that they will stick with a coach...now hopefully he may decline and leave it for someone else but if he doesn't he will still do a good job!
November 13, 200619 yr I for one am happy for Coach Brooks. He had absolutely nothing when he came to Kentucky. Probation. Loss of scholarships. No depth. Unrealistic expectations from some UK fans for immiatiate results. He's hung in there through the bad times, and he should be commended imo.
November 13, 200619 yr It would be interesting...but I certainly see Brian coming back...that means that U of L will certainly be just as good as they are now...next season. As a fan of both, I can only see UofL improving on defense. I feel that their offense has topped out. They (UofL offense) are good and can compete with any offense in the land. However, their (UofL defense) has a lot of room for improvement. UK's offense is just now finding themselves and UK's defense also has no where to go except up from here. It certainly will make for a good off season debate. However lets stick to this year. UK's offense needs to carry the load. Yes, thier defense has come up with crutial turnovers when they need them, but you can't go week to week counting on that. UofL has a great offense and has had that nearly the entire season. The only problem with them is they need to find a way to TACKLE.

He is recruiting in some good states, including Georgia, which we have some of our best recruits from (let's just hope that LaGrange pipeline continues). He has recruited Kentucky pretty hard and successfully in some cases. I would just love to see Coach Brooks be successful with UK players (the same way Va Tech has been with their program).
November 13, 200619 yr Coach Brooks has obviously done enough for an extension Congrats to him and the Cats.
November 13, 200619 yr I can only speak for one doubter but yes he has silenced me..........................................................................................................................for now.
November 13, 200619 yr First I must say that I have been one of Rich Brooks' supporters from the beginning. The problem I see with a contract extension is that attendance is plummeting even during this successful season. This is big business and the athletic director and university president are very concerned. Money, money, money. I think Rich has played the rotten cards he was dealt most admirably, but many of the UK faithful do not.

It amazes me that we have 'fans' who now are calling in on radio shows and upset that we will be 'stuck' with Brooks. Why should they care who the coach is as long as he is ethical and turning the program in the right direction?
November 13, 200619 yr There's no real reason to lock him up long-term; You mean other than Recruiting? Coaches with one year contracts recruit about as well as snails run 40 yard dashes.
November 13, 200619 yr You mean other than Recruiting? Coaches with one year contracts recruit about as well as snails run 40 yard dashes. :thumb: People wanted "signs of improvement" or a "signature win". At worst, we're looking at 7-5 with a bowl game and a win over Georgia, and they still aren't satisfied. But, I understand. If you don't think someone is the right guy for the job, then you just don't think he's the right guy for the job. It's like me with Tubby Smith....so, I'll give 'em a pass for not liking Brooksy.
November 13, 200619 yr If they let Archer go then he wouldn't be unemployed for more than a week. He is a very good and knowledgable defensive coordinator. The defense is young and the secondary is weak in spots. They will get better with age and depth. Yeah...his defense has been atrocious in both of his stints at UK. Was it a problem with the players both times or with the coach? The one constant has been the coach...hmmmmm
