Hopefully, it's considered. Like has been said above, it's not that he's a bad QB; it's just that his star could shine much brighter at another position.

..which raises an interesting question: Does a coach put a player in a position that is best for him or does he put him in a position that he thinks helps the team the most?

That's what I meant. Just didn't come out quite that way.

To the extent that the answers are mutually exclusive, its a no brainer for me: its the latter. Its a team sport and the object of the sport is for the team to win games, not create individual accomplishments.

When i played at Highlands we did have a specific coach that coached QB's and backs only. We were always told that it was the little things that counted. Like ball fakes and the basic techniques that i can almost bet they don't teach now, because it shows!!!!!!! I can name a person that could improve the QB position 100% but i won't because i know my P.M's box would explode with anger. The talent is there people, it just isn't being used properly. I thought Highlands had a decent year and hope next year isn't wasted talking about how good and atheletic they are. I also thought Clay Cecil did an unbelievable job considering nobody really showed him what to do. If he was being coached they sure didn't do a very good job of it. I can bet Tony Guiduli(SP) will have plenty of instruction this coming off season. (Private Instruction that Is) We will see how hard Tony pushes Clay next season for the QB spot. You will be surprised!!! Highlands will be fine, i would concerned if the past 3 freshman classes had a season record of 500 but we all know they didn't. Dale will find a way to get these young men motivated and prepared, because there is nobody that does it better. Go Birds in 2007

Every school has a coach that coach's the backs including QB's. What I was referring to whether they had a QB only coach. I do not think many schools have someone who coach's only QB's.

I would say one of the strengths of Cecil was his ball fakes he did with Kramer. That it was helped create the holes for the two to run in.I watched them a few times this year, a couple of times during those games,I moved to the endzones to get a different perspective. The deception created by the ball fakes was very good, several times teams would be tackling Kramer and Cecil had the ball. But, I do agree more time could be spent on footwork.

I have noticed when Cecil receives the snap on warm up pass plays he does not move his feet after catching the snap. His feet are stationary except for a slight step by his right foot when he releases the ball. I feel he should be taking AT LEAST one step back to set your feet then step into the pass. Having said that they almost never just throw the ball from the pocket, usually rolling out.

Our opinions differ.

Ask LC who was the toughest team last season and I'll bet they say CCH.

Again, our opinions simply differ.

81 - For what it's worth, As you know my son had a guest join us last Saturday for the Highlands / Cov Cath game who came up from EKU. Who was from Lex Cath and was on last years State Championship team and those were HIS exact feelings as well regarding last years CCH / Lex Cath game.

BTW - If I call you 81 does that make me Maxwell Smart?

Only if you talk into your shoe, 99.

Overall, I agree.

However, what if it costs the kid a scholarship?

If he is that talented, it won't cost him the scholarship.

SI did a story on Nick Saban and how his big time recruits were playing different positions at LSU from what they played in high school. If they have the talent, they will be found.

I respect cshs81's opinion, and I certainly don't want to spend too much time talking about past seasons, but I have to interject here.

What does a LexCAth player's thoughts about who was better in 05 matter? Highlands won the only meeting between CCH and the Birds, therefore CCH wasn't better.

Should we go poll the Elder kids as to who they thought was better this year, and then let that team advance to Friday?

Very wise point! :thumb:

What was so wise?

Mitchell went into the backfield against Bell, because nobody else could do what he could. Highlands doesn't win the game without him on both sides of the ball.

And no, I'm not a Bell fan, as if that should matter.

All I know is I had a QB coach in high school and I played for a Class A school. We spent 30 minutes in practice every day going over reads, drops, arm strengthening, footwork, etc. Highlands needs to cut the fat and drop a few of the shirttail riders on their staff and get a good QB coach. Having 18 coaches is ridiculous. JMO

Guidugli has the tools..... they need to develop him. He can pass and has poise, natural things you cant teach.

First of all, I'm sure Highlands has a coach who works with the QB's (thus a QB coach). I can't imagine they don't have.

You make a good point though, they have is it 18 or 20 assistants. Should one of them be "only" the QB coach? What do they all do? With as many coaches as they have someone should be "the" QB coach.

You mean nobody else could receive a hand off? I remember them doing it ok in the state game against Boyle, without him on both sides of the ball :thumb:
