Some thoughts about Highlands' season...

'Neck...I couldn't agree more...with the exception...and you know we always have exceptions (lol)...when you so eloquently raved about the O-line, you left out a player who really exemplified "team" this year. Richard "throw it to" Koop made a very selfless move to end from being a starting tackle the year before. I hope some of next years linemen take notice of how this SR crew worked on and off the field and hopefully emulate the efforts they put forth.

Having no ties to HHS or any team in the NKY area, this discussion about the season just completed is very interesting and familure to me. My team, Lou. St.X, has had a simlar year. Played a very tough schedule, did pretty well against tough foes like HHS, BG and Lex Cath, however, as the season went on, the energy level and leg strength seamed to diminish. Not sure if this is the type of thing that you have seen with your HHS team, but it was clear to me that the O and D lines of X were very challegned with respect to foot speed and agility late in the year. Most of the kids were big wide bodies, but still seamed to lose a step or two as the season went on. I attribute this to playing too tough a schedule. I think you need to play a tough schedule, but when your preparing for the next big game 8 out of 10 weeks in the regular season, it wears on the body and soul. JMO

Quiz?

I simply asked to see if you were familiar with all of the Bird's running backs that year, sorry if I struck a nerve. Honestly, it's a legit question. There was a lot of speculation about that game and the truth of the matter is your opinion is merely that, your opinion.

Another reason I asked if you could name them is you’ve repeated a lot of what was said by many Bell fans, and I know they’re not familiar with the Birds or their other backs.

Since you brought up that you could name five of their other backs, I would like to see if you could. Just for curiosity reasons alone. ;)

I think you may have bruised a touchy ego by reminding them of indisputable facts. We won the game, and could have done so with or without any one particular player. It was a team effort. Mike Mitchell was a part of that team; but not the entire team. End of story. Now can we bury the past and move on?

As usual, LN nailed it. I also want to add my thanks to the seniors for their dedication and hard work. You set the example for the younger kids who hopefully will continue to work as hard as you did in your careers. Your community is proud of you.

Koop was just a tight end. I don't consider them "real" offensive linemen. Just kidding Richard. You had a great season and you rightfully deserve the same accolades as the other young men I mentioned. Thanks DMZ for pointing that out.

Riverside, I really don't think that was the case with the Birds this year. I certainly did not notice any drop off in foot speed or strength towards the end of the season. As I mentioned in my long winded post, in the last regular season game we had over 300 yards rushing (I think it was actually 346) against one of the best defenses in the state. You generally don't do that if your legs are tired. Can't say if that was the case with X though.

HEY...

Speaking of Bluebirds, everyone should go onto Wikipedia's website and search the word "bluebird." Then, scroll down a bit to the part about "school mascot." I think you might like what you find!!!!!!! Also, take a look at the "external links" section as well. Enjoy!

I thinks me detects a bit of jealousy that a certain stubby-legged, brick-handed former tackle never got to wear a # higher than 63!!! "throw it to Neeeeeck"....just doesn't have the right sound to it!!

JB, that is just too cool. However, I always thought we were NKY Bluebirds not Western Bluebirds. :D

Leatherneck - :thumb: I hope "everyone" involved and supports the program reads your post. I think everyone could take something out of this. Great Job! Ready for 2007 and the chase for 17!

Hopefully, HHS will bring home no. 17 next year!

I'm astounded by how touchy some of you are about the 04 team. Mitchell made huge plays in the game that lifted the Birds to a win. That's the fact of the matter. And thus far, the closest thing to a fact anyone has posted on the matter. The famous, "other kids could have done it", arguement really isn't fact based.

My initial post regarding this game wasn't to rehash anything (I never even hashed it), it was simply to point out CovCath probably wasn't the second best team in the state in 04, Bell was probably better. After that someone felt guilty or slighted or something.

If you want to bury the past and move on, great. I guess that means we'll never hear again about "16". After all, that's in the past. Let's bury it and move on.

I believe there have been a hundred threads and conversations about the topic and it really has no place in the discussion. I also believe this thread is about HHS '06 season. Hence you're beating a dead horse that has been beaten for a couple of YEARS now. HHS fans are some of the most loyal, knowledgeable and respectful fans in the state and will defend their program with facts and not "ifs and buts". I think if you wish to discuss something that happened in '04, you should start your own thread on the topic or search for one of the many existing threads.

Congrats to this years team on a successful season. It didn't end the way we wanted, but should still be considered successful. To the Seniors, good luck in your next steps in life, thanks for the many memories. To the underclassmen, you have a year or two left, get to work on next year and bring home #17.:thumb:

The funny thing about that DMZ, is that while I predominanty played defense at Centre, my senior year I actually got to play some tight end (had one of those stupid vest type jerseys that I'd put on over my regular jersey when I went in at tight end) and wore No. 80. So there:flame:
