What was the "hot" Christmas gift you had on your wish list as a kid?

Featured Replies

When I was around 13 years old, I got an Xbox 360 for Christmas (relatively young, I know :lol2:). My mother told me stories of how she waited over 3 hours on Black Friday at our local Walmart to buy it and that I'd better take good care of it. What was *THE* Christmas gift everyone wanted when you were young?

When I was really young it was Micro Machines.

Video games were outlawed in our household. So that isn't an option.

Skateboard was a pretty good hit. I couldn't skate for nothing though we did ride down the concrete driveway sitting down on the thing.

As an adult, I got a really nice DeWalt miter saw a couple years age. I love it.

First gaming console I ever got was the Sega Genesis. I think I was like 5 or 6.

I distinctly remember getting that and then the original Playstation. Outher than those, there was nothing that sticks out in my mind.

I got a Big Foot Power Wheels one year. That’s the only “big” one that jumps out to me. And I remember getting my first bike.

Showing my age.....a new baseball glove from Western Auto in Alexandria. Used it for six years and cherished the service it dependably gave me.

It wasn’t my first bike, but I do remember getting my first “big kid” bike for Christmas. Probably my favorite thing I got though was this ESPN pop a shot type thing. It had a basketball hoop, then a soccer goal on the bottom and then a hole in the middle to throw a football or baseball through. That thing was cool. Hands down the best gift I ever got as a kid. Was there a kid in the late 80s and early 90s that didn't have a Nintendo at the top of his list?

I'm pretty sure I got mine in 1989 or 1990. It was everything I hoped it could be.

I go back a few more years than most of our members but two of the gifts that made me very happy was a tricycle when I was about 4 and and a six shooter gun and holster (with lots of rolls of caps to make the bang noise) when I was 5. We're talking 1958-59. Not much electronic gadgets and games back in those days.

Funny thing is,mine was actually a Red Rider BB gun. And the movie Christmas Story had no bearing on this decision. I was a country boy, living on a farm and knew I was to young to ask for a shotgun or a 22 so I went with the next best thing route.

Went back and researched this thing and I forgot a lot of details about it. Stuart Scott basically narrated the games. Every time you made a shot, Scott would do a voiceover with one of his signature catchphrases. I spent so many hours downstairs with my friends playing this. Eventually we took down all the sides and would just use it as a hoop and play 1 on 1 games in my basement. I got in more fights as a kid playing this game than anything else. We used to have our Christmas tree in the basement too so it’s safe to say I broke an ornament or two over the years.

I actually didn't watch A Christmas Story for the first time until after I had already had my first BB gun ironically enough. I still have it to this day in a closet somewhere.
