Is it wrong to have more than one favorite team in each professional sports league?

In MLB, NFL and college basketball I'm a ride or die guy. In the NBA I follow players now more than teams and in college football there are several teams that I've followed and been a fan of.

In college it’s Ohio State and UK. College is a little different because so many people grow up rooting for one team but attend school elsewhere which was my case. I also agree with JD that the NBA is definitely more of a cheer for players over teams league. The NBA markets this way and there is no team close to me. But outside of these two obvious circumstances, I’m a ride or die guy 1 team guy.

I have favorite multiple teams in many sports. Where I carry the ride or die theme further than most is that when my favorites are done for the season, I'm done with the sport.

I only watched or listened to 2 bowl games last season (UK's and USF's), no CFP for me. In fact, I have never watched the Championship game.

I only watched the NCAA College Basketball Championships (men and women) until my favs were eliminated. Then I was done.

Did not watch a single NFL playoff game or the Super Bowl.

It's been years since I've watched a MLB playoff game, much less a WS.

I watched the Stanley Cup playoffs until the Bolts, Preds, and Jackets were eliminated. I did not watch the finals.

I try to have 3 or 4 favorite teams in each league to follow. It helps keep my interest and also helps me indirectly follow a league as a whole.

Only one favorite. That's what favorite means.

I will root for other teams at times, but only have one favorite.

I'm a one team guy, except for college football. Growing up my dad was a Notre Dame football fan and a UK basketball fan. So those were my two favorite teams, and so I always saw Notre Dame on tv, and never UK football. I ended up going to UK for college though, and obviously went to many games. So I do have two favorites in college football in Notre Dame and UK.

With that said since I have two favorites in college football. While it sucks seeing them lose, losses by those teams in college football don't suck as much as my one and only die hard teams with the Bengals and UK Basketball. It's easy to be a lot more invested IMO when you only have one true team.

So if you have multiple teams you like, I don't think you truly care as much or even as upset as much if team losses like when your a one team die hard fan.

I follow multiple teams in several leagues. I always root for the Bolts, the Irish, the Cowboys over everyone else. But I also root for the Blue Jackets, the Predators, Alabama, UK, USF, the Bengals and several other teams.

Bengals and no one else's close. UK, UC, XU in College BB, UK, UC in college football. Blue Jackets in hockey and NBA no favorite.

In my opinion, if you’re one of the people that has multiple favorite teams in any sport, you are just trying to limit your ability to be disappointed. You just like multiple teams simply so the pain of losing isn’t as strong. I don’t want to say it’s cowardly because that’s probably too strong of a word, but I definitely won’t take you seriously as a fan.

My favorites are UK basketball and football, Reds, Bengals, 76ers, And Red Wings.

I do cheer for Southern Cal in football. As far as other teams in the NFL it depends on my fantasy team.

I suppose you would only have one favorite in each sport, but I usually adopt an AL team and an NFC team to root for each season.

Ok, I will revaluate. Nah

If it’s a sport you’re really invested in. Admittedly, you are just a casual fan right. I wasn’t really speaking about you.

I understand. I believe you can be a fan and not have a favorite team. I like college football and have watched more this year than in a long time. I like it, although I don't have a team I really like.

I believe that there’s a distinction between being a fan of a sport and a fan of a team. I watch every NFL game I can because I love the game, but I don’t have a favorite team. Not even one.
