In my opinion, if you’re one of the people that has multiple favorite teams in any sport, you are just trying to limit your ability to be disappointed. You just like multiple teams simply so the pain of losing isn’t as strong. I don’t want to say it’s cowardly because that’s probably too strong of a word, but I definitely won’t take you seriously as a fan.

:lol2: This is one of the most ridiculous takes I've ever read on here. The pain of losing? I'm not on the team and it's not my life. I could easily say if one suffer's pain from a loss of a team they're not on, I won't say it’s neurotic because that’s probably too strong of a word, but I definitely can't take them seriously. My life doesn't revolve around my sport teams. My team loses, I'm fine just seconds later.

If it’s a sport you’re really invested in. Admittedly, you are just a casual fan right. I wasn’t really speaking about you.

No, it does not make you a casual fan.

I figured it would come off to harsh. But the take is literally that some people have multiple favorite teams so they always have a team that’s winning to root for. It’s definitely not the same as having one team and rooting for them through thick and then and having to put up with the disappointment of a loss. Like being a Bengals fan my entire life sucks. There are people who were former Bengals fans who became Steelers fans because they win. That’s sad.

I think I understand now, sounds like you're talking about front runners. I completely agree there. With me, I will pull for other teams, but even if those teams win it all it isn't remotely close to having my favorite team winning it all. For instance, if the Lightning get eliminated, I will root for the Blue Jackets or the Predators. If they win it all, good for them, but it isn't remotely the same as if the Bolts win it. I certainly won't buy a Preds or Jackets Stanley Cup Championship t-shirt like I would if Tampa wins.

I gravitate towards teams that are interesting to watch and that give me a reason to watch them and root for them. The Browns are my team and that'll always be the case; however, I find the Rams wildly entertaining to watch and so I pull for them also. I like their coach, their QB, their creativity, etc. In hockey, the Jackets are my team and always will be; however, I am drawn to the exciting brand of hockey that the Lightning and Predators play - therefore I also root for these teams.

When following other teams, I get to see more of the league that I normally wouldn't because I'm watching more of the sport. To me, it's a win-win.

As a younger man I probably would have thought the idea was ridiculous. Now that I’m a transplant to a new city that has teams I’ve never actively supported before, I get how it happens.

I’ll probably never be a full on Bengals fan and I’d rather be dead than cheer for FC Cincinnati, but I find myself reading every single Reds story in the Enquirer. Have been a fan of the Twins since I was a little kid, but I envision myself signing on for the torment of watching and following the Reds now too.

Good Lord you take this stuff way too seriously. :lol2:

I think you know what I was trying to get at with my post if you think about it hard enough.

I’m a die-hard Louisville cardinal fan only (football/basketball it's Cardinals only baby). At the pro level I LOVE watching and cheering for various teams and various players, leaning toward the Reds, Bengals, and Warriors. I will also admit to taking great pleasure in watching certain teams lose, lol.

Like any other die-hard I get frustrated at times over UofL, but not to the point it ruins my day by any stretch, I’m much too cheery/positive for that, lol. At the end of the day there’s way more important things to take seriously.
