Let’s just say for arguments sake he completes twice as many passes (a Herculean accomplishment by most standards) that means he has completes 8. Teams that do well against Highlands run the ball. Which ever team controls the LOS and finishes long, time consuming drives wins this game.

A running clock is certainly possible.

 

Yes - If CCH gets an early lead and Highlands goes away from their running game, I could see a running clock. Highlands needs to run the ball and/or use high completion percentage short passes, control clock and reduce the number of possessions in the game.

 

No - The Highlands defense has the speed that will not give up big plays. The CCH offense is a big play offense. If Highlands limits big plays and makes CCH grind out drives, then it is doubtful there will be a running clock.

The chances of Highlands winning by running clock are like the chances of the Oakland Raiders winning the Super Bowl this year (impossible). The chances of CovCath winning by running clock are like the chances of Ohio State winning the NCAAF Natl Championship this year (possible but highly improbable).

Good point. McGinness is the best RB in NKY and Cov Cath all time rushing leader. I was at the first game and several Receivers got behind Highlands DBs and the throws were off to say the least. They were running wide open b/c Highlands was keying on the run! If those throws are on the Money the game isnt close.

Key on the run because the pass isn’t working is a “real time” decision. If the passing game isn’t moving the ball then you have to go with the run and the defense will key on the run. How many games has CovCath won because of their overpowering passing game? They are a run first team. I bet if you go back and look at the film there would be just as many Highlands receivers that found an opening and Cramer just missed them or overthrew them. But I still have to say trying to throw over a 6’5” defensive player (twice) is not a good game plan but it sounds like he may not be 100 percent. Maybe his vertical will be somewhere below 60 inches Friday.

I think the Colonels win with a running clock. Just a feeling, nothing more.

I did an informal count in this thread and I see "roughly" 3 yes votes, 7 no votes, and 7 maybe votes for a running clock.

 

Anyone else have an opinion?

 

On tangent, I talked to a mega CovCath Booster today and he said Colonels by 4 touchdowns so I guess that is another maybe.

I just don’t see a running clock in this one. This is not last years CovCath team and not last years Highlands team. They are a lot closer in talent this year. Birds had their close call in the mud last week. CovCath has not been tested since the last Highlands game. Birds might win, CovCath probably will. Is it safe to say the state trophy will be decided this week Fort Wright?

Wow, I'm surprised at the number of what I think are serious posts (still learning how and when to apply the sarcasm font on this site) on here thinking this lead gets to the point that the clock runs.

 

I certainly think CovCath wins, but I think Highlands brings a lot of fight with them, and this game is a 14 points or less margin to the final horn.

I think the other best team in the state South Warren probably will disagree with that.

There is absolutely zero reason for Highlands players, or fans to think they won't win. After playing so close last time, and honestly probably should have won but beat themselves. So Highlands no doubt should believe they will win.

 

However, going into that last game. CovCath was in the middle of a 20 something game winning streak, with almost all running clock wins. Including beating down Highlands last year. So CovCath played hard, but I doubt they were as hungry or focused as Highlands was last game. CovCath now probably is more awake, and more focused. Plus isn't their best offensive lineman back? CovCath got to see they can be beat if they don't play their best, and I think that will lead to them coming out even harder and more focused.

 

Highlands is much improve and on their way back, but they aren't there yet. I believe Highlands had their shot to win last game and yet still lost. I won't say CovCath will put a running clock on them, but I do think CovCath wins by a good margin.
