I just don’t see a running clock in this one. This is not last years CovCath team and not last years Highlands team. They are a lot closer in talent this year. Birds had their close call in the mud last week. CovCath has not been tested since the last Highlands game. Birds might win, CovCath probably will. Is it safe to say the state trophy will be decided this week Fort Wright?

CovCath was the much better team tonight. Poor play calling doesn’t help but not sure it would have mattered much. But I stand by what I said about this years teams and last years teams. Last years CovCath team would have won by 60 plus. Impressive performance. Thought Birds would keep them in the game but turns out CovCath defense was better.

For all the fans that wanted to put it all on the Cov Cath’s Sophomore QBs shoulders, well you got it. Highlands loaded the box to shut down McGinness, and left it up to the passing game. He connected with Mayer for the first TD, only to open the running game. He threw 1 pick at the end of the 1st half that meant nothing. After that they threw and ran at will. The Birds had a great season. Great kids on both sides of the ball. Love the games, not so much the adults that bash the kids and teams. Just my opinion.

Young man stepped up big last night. Any first game jitters that may have been there were gone after about 3 minutes into the game. CovCath is the real deal. Good Luck moving forward.

Sophomore QB for the Colonels looked like a senior this time out. I, myself was never trying to trash the kid if that’s the way it came out. I just thought you have to focus on McGuinnes, plus he’s a sophomore at the most complicated position. The Belicheck method of taking away the biggest weapon.

 

Cov Cath was the better team. After halftime with game at 7-0 I thought we would adjust to something or have a card up our sleeves.... nope. Cov Cath pulled away with a handful of guys playing both ways, maybe the birds can learn from that.

 

Congrats to the Colonels. Cov Cath is for reals. Hope they get another state championship.

Agree, last year's Covington Catholic team was better than this one, which is a testimony to how good last year's CCH team was.

 

Next year I think the gap closes even more.
