Will Jeff Brohm leave Purdue if Louisville fires Petrino?

Featured Replies

The Milton Wright commitment this morning had me thinking about the future of the Brohm era at Purdue. He's been a favorite for the job that isn't even officially open yet, and made me want to start a discussion about his future with the Boilermakers. Does Brohm take the Louisville job if it opens? And if so, how does this alter the recruiting currently going on both at Purdue and at Louisville?

This is not a knock against UL, but a hot commodity coach at a Big 10 school of the caliber of Purdue (not saying they are great, but they have an ok tradition), on the surface would be in line for something much bigger and better than UL. And yes, I get the Brohm UL connection, which is the only reason he is of consideration, right?

Is he nationally a hot commodity right now? Or is most of the buzz around him more just around this year, and his UL connection? Maybe I just haven't heard much yet, but I haven't heard him as a national hot commodity yet? I have only heard him as a hot commodity for UL.

I think I agree with this. He still lost those games to start this year which is why is record isn’t any better than it is. If he stays at Purdue and carries this success into next year at Purdue and does well again, his name will start appearing for the top jobs. He’s still a year away from being a really big name nationally.

Everyone is making good points in this thread.

If feels like it would be a lateral move to me.

It is at best a lateral move, but never underestimate the appeal of home. I turned down a very good out of state job one time for just that reason. I've never regretted it. Besides, if he moves back to Louisville his sons can attend Trinity - Priceless.

Louisville is 100% a step up from Purdue as far as coaching goes. Calling this a lateral move is sort of insulting to UL tbh. 100% Brohm takes the job if it comes open. This sounds so much like the talk of whether Chris Mack leave Xavier to go to UL. The only question is will another job come open that is a step up from Louisville. Brohm is going to be on the short list of every single open power 5 job this year. If USC fires Helton, Brohm would definitely be one of the first people called. Auburn gave a vote of confidence in Gus Malzahn after the A&M win but if they get blown out by Georgia and Alabama I could easily see Auburn putting out feelers to Brohm. Bottom line is Purdue is a bottom tier power 5 job. They have sub par facilities, little history outside of some great QBs, and it’s an extremely difficult place to recruit to. The only Purdue has going for it is Brohm. So again, if UL offers Brohm goes home 100% unless a huge opening becomes available.

UK fans calling it a lateral move. Purdue has never been in the national championship talk and UL has had two legit years of having a chance.

This honestly may play a bigger factor than people think too.

Purdue is not a lateral move to UL. Iowa would be a lateral move.

Louisville is having a down year obviously. Based on how their play has been overall in the past ten years, I’d say that Louisville is a better job than Purdue. Regardless, I’m sure that Brohm would like to be back at home if given the opportunity.

No. Period

I would not leave Purdue for Louisville.

He has the makings of a really good team at Purdue for the next few years. I can't imagine he would leave that for an athletic program that is realistically in shambles.

Jeff is on my short list if USC pulls the trigger. Unfortunately, I don't think it is going to happen. He has demoted Tee Martin and fired family friend Neil Callaway. However, that was a directive from Lynn Swann. If he keeps his job, I think 3 or 4 more assistants are let go. Clay is the problem. Great guy, below average Head Coach. The reasons are too numerous to go into here. I can PM you this week and give details if you want.

I wouldnt, he’s got a good thing going at Purdue. He is in the weaker division of the B1G as well, especially with Nebraska and Wisconsin down this year. The way UL looks now he wont be winning there for 2-3 years. I get that he walked into a similar situation at Purdue, but this UL team has gotten destroyed by every ACC team its played minus a 4 point loss to a bad Florida State team.
