Browns 21 Jets 17

Featured Replies

Last evening the Browns needed Mayfield. The team just seemed to respond better to him last night. Taylor was way off and just not very good. With that being said Taylor played very well in the first two games and made a big time clutch throw near the end of both games. One to Gordon against the Steelers and Callaway against the Saints. He is not the reason they lost either game. Make game winning field goals it's a different story.

To me it has nothing to do with liking Mayfield or not. He's just another QB to me and he's with the Browns, so I really hope he doesn't play well enough for them to win most games.

I do find it amusing, maybe only to me, that basically 1/2 of one game, future judgments are made.

It was what it was, a very impressive first half for the rook and an awful first half for Taylor, nothing more should really be read into it than that for me.

Yeah Tyrod took the Bills to the playoffs, but let’s not act like he was the reason. Tyrod was tasked with one job and that was to not turn the ball over. Tyrod Taylor is Jalen Hurts. He not going to be the reason you lose a game. He’s also not going to win you a game either. Mayfield won that game last night for Cleveland.

In one of those two games Taylor threw a beautiful long pass completion late in the game. He made some big plays. As others have stated, the losses had little to nothing to do with QB play and there is no way to say what would have happened if Baker had started either of the first two games.

You know who Tyrod Taylor is? Jalen Hurts. Now clearly Jalen is relatively on a much better team than Tyrod, but the analogy still works. Tyrod/ Jalen are never going to lose you a game. They take care of the ball, make the plays they need to, and they let their supporting casts support them. Baker and Tua are special because they can go out and win you a game. They can step up and make those special plays that the other guy can’t make. It’s a different vibe for the offense when they are on the field.

Tyrod Taylor is an NFL QB that has made millions of dollars leading professional football teams, including taking one to the playoffs. Stop comparing him to a guy that isn't even first string on a college team.

I meant as far as their playing styles. They are extremely similar. Just at different levels of football. I think the analogy works.

I am not projecting talent or comparing Taylor with Baker. I am saying in the first two games Taylor made big plays that could have won the games. I am judging purely on his performance in those two games. He made big plays that should have won those games and is actually a reason they should have won those games. I don't know if Mayfield makes those plays or not.

The other thing I will say is this. When people want something to happen, they pick apart every mistake by the one and ignore the mistakes by the other. I saw a couple plays by Baker last night that every fan in Cleveland would have blasted Taylor for making. Every Taylor incompletion is complaint time. Every Taylor completion is so what, Baker could have done that. And vice versa. The Cleveland fans have huge Baker bias when they watch those two.

The first time Baker got any contact in the pocket, he fumbled. Luckily for Cleveland, they recovered. He also threw what should have been a pick into the hands of a Jets DB in the end zone, but it was dropped. If those two plays are made by NYJ, it's a much different narrative.

Except Mayfield winds up with a win and Taylor hasn't yet. That's one significant difference. Unfortunately, for Taylor, that fact won't be lost on Hue Jackson who has only 1 win in two seasons. Hue was pretty effusive with his praise of Mayfield. He said the game changed when he got into the game.

One big factor - the fans at home. I don't know who or where the Browns play next, but if they play at home I think they have to start Mayfield. What changed more than anything when Mayfield came into the game was the crowd. Big shift in energy and I think it picked the team up too.

Assuming they start him going forward, there will be 7 weeks of film on him. I'd put a large amount of money on the Bengals.

Same reason I'm not buying into all the Mahomes hype just yet. Let the league get some tape on the kid, things will change real quick.

Dak was a stud his rookie season. Since then he's been very average.

Watson looked elite last season. So far this year he looks well below league average.

It's all about how he will adjust to teams adjustments.

Currently with this Browns win the Steelers are in last place in the AFC North.

I think it's hard to say a qb played well the first 2 games. When he had a completion percentage in the 30s in that Pittsburgh game. He did make a big time throw to Gordon to tie it up. But neither of you mentioned the interception he threw at the end of the 4th quarter when they were driving and had a chance to win it in regulation. Absolutely zero reason to throw the pass he threw, and then under threw it at that. Not to mention the Browns defense forced what 6 turnovers that game, and the majority of the time he and the offense did nothing with it. So I do think it is fair to say Mayfield maybe could have gave them a better shot to win that game. To where they wouldn't have needed a field goal in overtime to win.

The Saints game Taylor played a good game and definitely wasnt a part of the reason they lost.

However in 2 of 3 games this season. Taylor had completion a percentage of less than 40. His completion percentage for the year after 3 games is only 48 percent. So I get it you all want to temper the Mayfield enthusiasm. However any qb who has a completion percentage that low after 3 games, does not deserve to be the starter. Have to assume even as a Rookie. Mayfield who is a better passer will do better than that. Meaning more drives being sustained, and keeping their underrated defense off the field all game.
