He'll be average at best in the NBA.

He was being used the wrong way in Tubby's system but that still doesn't take away the fact that he was selfish. Also Morris's situation had nothing to do with how Rondo should have approached games. Bottom line he quit after his freshman year. At least Morris had the guts to come back and play hard after he made a fool of himself.

I guess being a quitter all of his sophomore year made him a first round pick in the NBA. Good call.

With all due respect, you're showing that you do not truly understand how the Celtics of the 80s played the game and that you do not know what DA's role was. When you have Bird, the Chief, and McHale, your role is not to score 20 per night. I'm going to guess by your moniker that you're too young to have actually witnessed the classic Celtics-Lakers and Celtics-Pistons battles.

 

Secondly, averaging 11 PPG over 14 YEARS in the top league in the WORLD is far from "average."

Thank you for making my point for me. Ainge's place on this team was not to score 20 a night but to be a ROLE PLAYER. IMO no role player is an outstanding player just a good player. Ainge may have been a great ROLE PLAYER, scoring 10 a night,getting some rebounds and some assists. But, he was no where as important or as good as the 3 you mentioned in the above qoute.

I dont agree that the coach should make his best player happy, that is like saying ok you are the new coach of the team we will do what you want...

 

I agree and I dont think anyone would argue that the style we used here wasn't the best style for him. But if you look at the players around him we didn't have the players that probably could run up and down the court. Yeah we had Crawford and Bradley, but besides that we had guys like Perry, Thomas, Orbzut, Sparks, Morris, and Alleyne all guys that really dont seem built to be running a fast pace game all the time. So that means Tubby needed to probably play a style that fits the team the best, not just one player...As I said it wasn't the best style for Rondo, but if he would have just bought into and and not tried to fight it, he still could have been really successful here...

 

 

Why would you not want your best player to be happy? It seems to me that you would be more successful if your best player or players are happy. Could he have possibly been frustrated that they were out of shape and could not run? Is it possible that he gave as much effort as possible and didn't see the same effort from everyone else? They very easily could have been a faster paced team last year. They chose not to. How do you know he didn't give his best effort?

Had Ainge been on a bad team, I have no doubt in my mind that he would have had a much higher career average . Stats are meaningless to look at if you cannot put them in proper context which I believe is the case with your argument. In addition, I believe we're having a semantics debate over the word "average."

 

I'll simply it this way: Ainge was a talented player on one of the best teams in NBA history and did exactly what they needed him to do for a LONG period of time.
