March 23, 20188 yr I'm all too familiar to the defense that was played on Knox. You put a smaller, quicker but strong defender on him to face-guard and crowd his space. It makes it very difficult to get uncontested shots. It's difficult to go to the post because he would have been doubled; because it's easier to double the post. It makes him work for every shot and the cumulative effect is you have a frustrated, tired scorer who can't get off shots, contested or uncontested.
March 23, 20188 yr The handshake thing is stupid. Kentucky was in line shaking hands and K-State players ran off to celebrate. There's actually a picture of UK players shaking hands. They need to act like they've been there before...oh wait.
March 23, 20188 yr To me the biggest factor was that K State shut down SGA. As Green, SGA and Diallo were becoming ineffective and/or accumulating fouls, I was wondering who could Cal play at guard after those three. I don't think there would be anyone else. It was a bad time for all 3 of them to have a bad game. Oh well. At least I can root for the Ramblers now without reservation.
March 23, 20188 yr UK needs more Darius Miller/Dominique Hawkins type players. Kentucky kids who grew up loving U.K. and will stick around four years and may have that little extra bit of heart in games like these. At least one of those guys on each team to balance with the one and dones. No title in 2012 without Miller.

And that’s why I wish they would go after that kid at Hopkinsville, can’t remember his name, but he can flat out play.
March 23, 20188 yr Not sure who will have more nightmares. Nazr Mohammed and his 0-6 performance in the ‘97 Finals, or PJ tonight. On balance, as you alluded to, he was he reason they were in the game. Probably not Nazr since he won 2 titles anyway.
March 23, 20188 yr I don't care what team you root for, the refs made it impossible to enjoy watching that game. Even had UK won, while I would have been happy with the result, I was miserable watching the game. Almost to the point that I wanted to just quit watching and read about who won later. No flow at all. I don't know if you can blame all that on the refs. I think Kansas State got pretty much what they wanted. They wanted to play physical and didn't care about getting called for fouls. Kansas State's game versus UMBC was even worse to watch than the UK game. I will be interested in seeing what it looks like when they play Loyola. Don't be surprised if it is another almost unwatchable game. I think that's the way Kansas State wants it to be.
March 23, 20188 yr So does he sacrifice what's good for the UK team for the good of the players to move on to the next level? 9/10 times those are not mutually exclusive.

At least one of those guys on each team to balance with the one and dones. No title in 2012 without Miller. Only if those kids can actually play. That's why I think Kentucky missed the boat with Hollingsworth from Dunbar - he proved his ability at the high school level and is doing so again at Western. However, it would be foolish to automatically sign Mr. Basketball or guarantee a scholarship to a Kentucky kid at the expense of a better player just because he happens to be from the bluegrass.

So is there a KY player out there that can get drafted and play in the NBA (Miller) or a player that can play in the D League (Hawkins)?
March 23, 20188 yr Eh kind of. Cousins, Davis, Towns were all guys capable of playing outside more and was going to in the NBA. Yet he didn't allow them to play outside at all in college, even though their game in the NBA would allow it. So I am surprised he didn't try to let Knox do more down low. Yeah but those guys are all 4's and 5's in the NBA. Knox will be a 3. He'll never play down though in the league.

March 23, 20188 yr They are apoplectic when the recruiting dice come up snake eyes and they end up losing at Robert Morris in the NIT. They make the tournament that year if Nerlens doesn't go down.

Darius Miller was almost a top 40 recruit in the whole country. KY just doesn't grow those type of players all that often.

Other than CJ Frederick and maybe Jay Scrubb, I'm not sure of any senior who could play at Kentucky. Obviously there could be some surprises.
