UK football - Randy Sanders HC in 07?

Featured Replies

I have no inside information, but my gut tells me this is likely to happen. We all know Joker Phillips, is well, a joke. IMO, conducting a nationwide search would be prudent, but I just have an odd feeling that Sanders was brought in for a reason, and not to be QB coach. I would appreciate any comments.

Nah.

Why is Joker Phillips a "joke?"

I honestly don't have a reason to discredit Joker, except saying I think the offense has been suspect at best in his tenure. I think you could validly argue that the talent hasn't been there, etc. IMO, we have no identity. I guess our identity is coming out, calling a play, and then coming to the line and calling a new play. I am willing to be a fan of that, IF it resulted in consistent results. Franlky, I think Randy Sanders has a significant part in that process.

I guess ultimatly, I want to believe that UK will do something better than the status quo. It just seems that we are unwilling to demand something better.

Rather have Joker or Ron Hudson? Joker or Elliot Uzelac? Joker's offense isn't the problem with this team.. Defense and health is.

I still believe that Bo Pellini will be the next UK coach (maybe hope is better than believe).

Joker doesnt call all of the offensive. Brooks makes many of the calls...especially in tight situations and many 3rd downs (this comes straight from a few players). Joker is a tremendous coach and recruiter. Joker and the offense has been the ONLY bright spot.

LSU would second that notion.

So the same Randy Sanders that UK fans laughed at when he ran the Tennessee offense would now be considered a viable UK HC candidate for next season? And Mitch Barnhardt is the one with the problem?

IMO if they fire brooks they have to send the entire staff packing.

Maybe Guy Morris and his staff should have been paid properly. Look at what Baylor is doing.

Yeah, Baylor is really getting it done. They lost to Army for crying out loud. Army got beat at home by Rice 48-14. Guy Morris isn't worth the money UK fans think he should have been paid. He is 11-23 in first 3 years and is 4-4 this year and will likely finish with at most 5 wins. What is impressive about that?

He took over a program in worse shape than UK.(which I know is hard to believe) Thye will be in a bowl game this season.

They will beat Texas Am, Texas tech and Oklahoma.

Yes the Army game was a tough loss.

But so was UK' loss to Ohio U.

I'd press for Bo Pellini, Paul Petrino, Gene Chizek, David Cutcliffe, etc. before promoting any of the current offensive coordinators.

They won't beat one of the teams you listed much less all three. Somebody really likes Guy Morris. And unless Baylor was getting ready to start probation as well don't tell me they were in worse shape then UK. They may have been at that point when Morris took the job but the future was much brighter for Baylor. UK was just starting their worst years.

All of those look like good candidates along with U of L Defensive Coordinator Mike Cassidy.

IMO, UK needs to bring in a defensive minded coach (Pellini, Cassidy, etc.). Mumme was all offense and UK couldn't get over the hump with him. Brooks is who knows what. The SEC is such a tough conference that you need a good D to be able to compete. That is why UK can't compete. Joker and Randy Sanders can stay on the staff, Brooks and Archer need to go!
