Honda CR-V vs. Toyota RAV4

Featured Replies

My folks got a Rav4 about 5 years ago and I have driven it a lot. I quite like it, and I'm thinking of buying theirs.

I've been in both, drove my stepmom's Rav4 multiple times. If it were me buying it, I'd go with the CR-V. Just felt nicer.

My wife is on her 2nd CRV and we love it. I would go Honda on this one. Rides and looks better IMO. It's a beast in the snow.

Just curious why these are the only two you are considering? American car manufacturers have come a long way with reliability and cost of maintenance since 2000. My wife drives a 2014 Ford escape with Ecoboost 2.0 has 54,000 miles on it and had never had a problem. I believe in buying american products as long as they are comparable.

I actually work at the Honda Dealership in Richmond. CR-V is the best way to go. Nav, Lane Watch unless it's Honda Sensing, traction control, drives and rides better and is very trustworthy when it comes to bad weather. we actually sell a lot of CR-V's. Can get you in any vehicle and my boss can usually get it approved if banks say no.

Do not buy a Subaru.

Personally I know a lot more people that work for Toyota either in Princeton, IN or Georgetown, KY than I do that work for Ford or Chevy. I guess and the end the money goes back to Japan, but it sure does seem like a lot of Americans are benefiting for anybody buying a Japanese care these days.

My kid works for Honda. Sees a lot of Hondas and Toyotas. His family vehicle is a Hyundai.

We love our Sonata.

The CRV's also hold an extremely high book value for many years. The RAV4 also is higher in book value than others mentioned in this thread as well.

Do not buy a Subaru.

Why not? My wife has a Legacy and it is a great vehicle. I love that it is a 4 door sedan with all wheel drive. Nothing but good things to say about its look, performance, etc.

Back to the thread topic, I drove a Rav-4 for about 8 years and finally was just ready to drive something different. I gave it to my daughter with 160,000 miles and she still has it and likes it. It is a great vehicle. I like Hondas as well and have owned three in my life. Cannot really go wrong with either. I drive a Mazda CX-5 right now and absolutely love it.

They may be safe in a crash, but they are not safe to drive. Mom has one, its 11 years old, 68,000 miles on it and the repair list is as follows:

New transmission at 28,000

new A/C unit at 60,000

New Head Gaskets at 41,000

New front hubs at 52,000 ish

That doesn't count all the little things shes had to deal with, I know she had a brake rotor break at one point too.

All service work done at a Subaru Dealer.

Another relative had an Outback that the transmission fell out of the car.

Subaru = junk
