February 28, 20188 yr They may be safe in a crash, but they are not safe to drive. Mom has one, its 11 years old, 68,000 miles on it and the repair list is as follows: New transmission at 28,000 new A/C unit at 60,000 New Head Gaskets at 41,000 New front hubs at 52,000 ish That doesn't count all the little things shes had to deal with, I know she had a brake rotor break at one point too. All service work done at a Subaru Dealer. Another relative had an Outback that the transmission fell out of the car. Subaru = junk Sounds like you got a lemon...can happen with any make and model. I know many who have had great experiences with Subaru (including my wife, parents, former boss and a few others). If I had the issues you have had though, I would not buy another one either. They are rated very well over all though.

March 1, 20188 yr I drive a CRV, it is a fine vehicle. I mostly got it because I knew I would be teaching 3 teenagers to drive in it. It is perfect because it sits high, but it isn't real big. So it has been good for what I bought it for. My biggest issue is that I never see another male drive one. It seems to be the car of choice for middle aged women.

So it has been good for what I bought it for. My biggest issue is that I never see another male drive one. It seems to be the car of choice for middle aged women. A very prescient observation as it was indeed purchased to be primarily my wife's "car." (I guess she's still middle-aged. At what age does that end? This message will self-destruct in 30 minutes.)

I have 4 friends (male) who drive CRV's. I guess they aren't so insecure that the vehicles they drive describe them. :lol2:
