So love songs are now taboo?

If that’s a love song, Sir Mix-a-lot wrote the greatest power ballad of all time.

Didn't watch a second of it.

I watch every year. I don't like pop music in general, but I'm always watching when music is center stage.

Kendrick Lamar's performance was the best of the night for me. He's on another level.

Throw me in the camp that just doesn't watch award shows.

I'll always DVR the ESPY's just to hear the Arthur Ashe speech because some of them have been powerful over the years but that's the only part I watch. Awards shows just don't do it for me.

They had a 24% drop in viewers from last years show and hit an all time low in the Nielsen ratings in the 18-49 demo.

People are tired of being preached to. It is isn't even about music anymore.

Every era has had musicians protesting either through public speech or through their songs. This isn’t new.

When did ESPN start carrying the Grammys?

I can't remember the last time I watched any kind of awards show on TV. 40 years or more I would guess.

Grammy's were on? Must have missed it.

It would help in these award shows, not only music but others such as the Oscars, if they would stick to the subject and reason they are holding the event and leave all the other non-awards topics out of it. Too many are grandstanding and posturing for a “cause”. Jeez, just show some highlights of the nominee, say a few nice or comical words about the individual, and announce the award winner. Then the winner should come up and give a short thanks speech and go sit down. It would make the evening go much smoother and easier to watch imo.

"Cause"? In quotations? So dudes being creeps and inequality in the industry are just "causes?" Are we not tired of suppressing these dirty little secrets?

Just curious what issue would be so worthy of dropping the "..."

Certainly they're free to talk about whatever they see fit. I'll always support their right to do so. However with that comes the realization that a lot of people don't care, and don't want to hear it.

Frankly, I don't care what Kendrick Lamar thinks, I don't care what Beyonce thinks or Ed Sheeren, I don't care what Rose McGowan thinks, or Ashley Judd, or Tom Cruise, or Tom Hanks, or Oprah, or Meryl Streep, etc.

Only reason I care to pay any of them even the slightest attention is to be entertained by their music or acting performances. Short of that, they serve no purpose in my life.
