Since before the season started, I have said Rondale Moore. Don't see a reason to change at this point.

With that said, I think VanCleave is the epitome of the "Most Valuable Player" aspect and Mayer has to get some love for being the driving force that took CovCath to an elite level.

I think it varies

 

West Virginia does one player

 

Tennessee I think does it per class

 

I think Georgia does a player of the year per class but will also have an overall player of the year.

Is there a written criteria for selecting Mr. Football? I know it is supposed to be a senior. What are the other requirements or guidelines in selecting Mr. Football?

I've not really ever seen/heard any criteria aside from the fact that they have to be nominated by an AP prep sports writer.

There is no real criteria printed. Supposedly, it does have to be a Kentucky High School Senior who plays for a KHSAA school. Other then that, there isn't a set of rules assigned to it. Some people are going to see it as a "career" type award, some see it as a "senior season" type award. Some think it has to be someone that is going to play D1 football and some see it as a "best high school player" type award. Write your own criteria I guess.

I did some research some months back on past nominees and winners. In the 30 years that they've been presenting an Associate Press Mr. Football Award here in Kentucky, they've opted not to publicize the ballot of official finalists quite a few times. There has been at least one high school junior to make the list in that time - Pulaski County's quarterback Riley Hall, who was on the ballot in 2015.
