I keep hearing the with enrollment dropping that the school may not even be around in 5 years. Any truth to that?

I would think not over $300k so far in site and soil survey's.

If that were any kind of a possibility in the thoughts at the Diocese, I don't think they would be raising money for improvements.

I'm assuming this ended up just being some spinning wheels, correct?

I'm not exactly sure where Coach Lickert is pulling this from, but it sounds pretty interesting...particularly now that there is a new man in charge for the Diocese of Covington.



Character Development
Athletic Complex -  The athletic complex was the fourth priority within the feasibility study slightly behind the Community Arts & Events Center by to fix and a retaining wall which is included within this project would fix this issue. In our belief that one decimal points, but is a higher priority of the Diocese and Administration due to the eroding of the Southwest hillside corner of our campus. This is a high priority of the best ways to develop character is through sport, we find this a higher priority, too, because it impacts more students than the Community Arts and Events Center. The athletic complex will be more than just a football field. It will have the capability of hosting football, soccer, and track. Additionally as a turf fielci, it can be utilized by other teams for practices when conditions are unavailable on a traditional grass field such as a baseball or softball practice. It will also available for grade school programs and generate potential revenue through rentals. Studies show an overwhelming high number of benefits for students who participate in athletics as they improve collaboration, problem solving, competitiveness, conflict resolution and the list goes on. We are a school that has a strong tradition of athletics and this facility will take this tradition to the next level.

Someone sent me an answer to my question. That came from NCC's Strategic Plan To 2030.

From the school's website:

In February 2022, Bishop Iffert was presented with the results of our feasibility study which took place in the Fall of 2021. In addition to the presentation of this study, we also discussed a proposed Strategic Plan to 2030 for Newport Central Catholic. Bishop Iffert's support of our school and our plan were extremely positive and his permission to move forward with a "Silent Phase" of fundraising was granted. This "Silent Phase" of creating a leadership team and meeting with identified potential donors in this preliminary phase will allow us to finalize the scope and scale of our facility upgrade plans.

In March 2022, we received formal word from Bishop Iffert authorizing this step in which he expressed his thanks to the committee for their work to build upon the fine history at Newport Central Catholic. Additionally, he indicated his regular prayers for the success of this program.

With this preliminary approval, we are now focused on this next phase where we will build the leadership and momentum needed for this campaign. We hope to complete this "Silent Phase" by this Fall and will continue to work with Bishop Iffert and Diocesan staff to move into a sanctioned public campaign.

This "Silent Phase" is an exciting and vital step for Newport Central Catholic, but we are also excited about addressing much more than just potential facility upgrades. Details on further developing the advancement, academics and culture of our school can be found in the Strategic Plan to 2030. This plan is a comprehensive and collaborative document. It addresses many different factors and was created from feedback of the many stakeholders of Newport Central Catholic. It is also a living document and will be adapted as it moves forward to best serve our students.

As there will likely be questions concerning the details of this plan, we will hold a Strategic Plan to 2030 information night on April 4, 2022 at 6:30pm in the school cafeteria. All NCC stakeholders are invited to attend. Thank you for everyone's hard work in making the future of NCC a bright one. It is an exciting time to be a Thoroughbred!

Drop in enrollment at NCC is no secret around Northern Kentucky. It's a multi-layered issue, and the biggest one is demographics in Campbell County. The area around Bishop Brossart is blowing up. For example, Alexandria's population has increased by 17% since 2010, and Newport's population has decreased by 12.5% since 2010......and it's not the folks with the money to spend $7500 per child on tuition who are staying around Newport.

Catholic school enrollment is also down, across the board. When the recession hit in 2008, a lot of families had to cinch up their belt, financially speaking, and one of the first ways a lot of them did that was by opting to send their kids to public schools instead of paying for Catholic school. That's had a ripple effect that is making its way up to the high school enrollment level as we speak.

Another thing I think the stadium portion of their strategic plan addresses is the fact that they realize that one of the things that may be a deciding factor for prospective students is facilities....and one of the major missing pieces in New Cath's facilities is am athletic complex.

When I walk around the east side area of Newport that has evolved into a very nice neighborhood, I am often struck by the number of signs I see in yards supporting other private schools, many of them in Cincinnati. NCC needs to convince those families they are a top tier option where they should be sending their kids. I think there are enough families in Newport, Bellevue, Ft. Thomas, et al to support a renewal in enrollment. Facilities are a big help in that.

I went to Newport Catholic this winter for a basketball game.  Their gym is falling apart.
