At the time the junior high team folded they had 11 kids sign up and there were 9 teams in the area to choose from. Most of the teams have struggled with low numbers in recent years.

Since @CAP is the only one whose info can be correct why dont you give us the juicy details? The person who offered the info to me is extremely close to Wagner(?) and was extremely close to the program the past 12 years. Also people I know who have kids on the team have reinforced what I was told.

 

I know a lot of players on the team as well as coaches with Dan being one of them. My point to all this is that Dan didn't run a program and what I mean by that is form the junior high on up. The discipline was gone, the arguing between coaches was ridiculous and not being prepared was evident. If you went to the game and couldn't see that then you are blind. This is all the things that Ron saw and when more than half your parents call the school then that's a problem and it was people who's kids played all the time. Also he never put the best 11 on the field and if again you went to the games you would have seen that.

IMO Dan should have went to the feeders schools and pushed he did none of that and that's what I mean about running a program. He just accepted and use low numbers as an excuse instead of working on it.

I am disappointed in Ron...Dan deserved another year, he earned that. If things didn't get better, then make the move. He forgets that the year prior to his last region title in Boys Basketball, also his last season as HC... Some of those same people were trying to get him fired as BBall coach...for not doing better with a stacked basketball team that featured 3 future D1 or D2 college Basketball players.

IMO nearly 30 years of work at the school should earn you something... Not many folks were complaining when they lost in the state Finals the first 2 years...If in fact he let discipline slip and other issues with the program were a problem, unless he was told last year to fix it...he should be given the opportunity to correct the problems. Sometimes a problem doesn't surface until it's too late to fix it in a given year...If the problem continued then it's a different story. I can guarantee you that the complaining from the parents, players and Alum were significantly louder in the late 90's than they were this past year. They gave coach Schneider the opportunity to correct it, and he did. Leading to a pretty nice run for the program in the 2000's.

 

I'll be honest I was one of those who thought Coach Schneider should have been replaced... now that I'm older I recognize that winning Football games may not always be the most important thing a High School coach does...

As a player in the late 90's, It is of my opinion the only reason the program turned on a dime is bc Schneider finally ceased total control of the team. Allowing for the asisstants to have more say on personel and type of offense to run. At some point in time you'd have to sit back and think "this run, run, pass, punt offense we have isn't getting the job done". When you don't have overwhelming strengths in one area (i.e. run game) you need to adapt and the only reason that occurred is bc of transitioning from game controller to game managing. Also I don't know if you learned any life lessons from him but I know I did not. All I remember is a man who refused to adapt and held on way to long.

Missing the point he wasn't given the time he should have to the program, never showed up for workouts, he just wasn't dedicated enough and that's what Ron saw and it wasn't just this year.

What's dead about it? NCC is trying to hire a new coach. I hadn't heard about any hire being made as of yet, so it would seem to me that the issue of the open job is very much alive.

They need a person from outside, maybe someone so far outside they may have heard of Newport, Ky. Need someone who will have zero outside influences and when those influences arise, have to courage to tell them to take a hike.
