6A NKY State Hopes

THS2011

Recommended Posts

It is a bad year for NKY 6A Football.

Didn't Simon Kenton petition the state a couple years ago to try to get the easy draw away from Trinity?

NKY football is down period across the board. Beechwood is only good in 1A because they are a 2A school playing in 1A.

Cov Cath is the only really good team in NKY this year.

The proposal (#10), looks remarkably similar to the request (#9).

Thanks for posting the enrollment grouping Guru. I've been curious as to the blurring of the lines on the play up/down in the classes. It's so much easier to follow than this spreadsheet, though the numbers here look more recent -

http://khsaa.org/reports/enrollments/20162017schoolenrollmenttotalsbyenroll.pdf

If I read the chart presented by @Runcible Owl correctly, the male enrollment for some of the NKY high schools is:

Cooper 711 from end of p. 5

Boone 708 from p. 6

Conner 700 from p. 6

Dixie 767 from p. 6

Campbell Co 793 from p. 6

Simon Kenton 939 from p. 6

Ryle 924 from p. 6

I see that the document matching enrollment and classification provided by theguru was based on a 4 year average enrollment. Based on the report provided by Runcible Owl, in the next realignment period (2019-2022) Dixie should be moving up to 6A, while Boone, Cooper, and Conner should all be in 5A.

Either way, Boone Co.'s enrollment now should put the school in the 5A classification. What reason (from the school's perspective) would Boone Co have to remain in 6A when enrollment is below that? There must be some reason for it.

There was a thread about this last year.

Please look at the class break down again according to the year of this realignment happened Beechwood is a 1A School. Why would you say they are a 2A school playing in 1A yes the enrollment has gone up but so have other schools so until the next realignment happens they are 1A. I always read people on here saying Beechwood should play up or are to big for 1A and realistically they are where they should be. They prove year in and year out they are extremely good and play most of the other NKY 2A schools and win most of those games.

Back to the topic of this thread NKY 6A is definitely down this year but when compared to the Louisville schools they should always be considered down because they really can’t compete with Trinity and St. X. No knock on them but those schools are on a different level than most all teams in KY.

Beechwood is at 226 in the most current enrollment report. They were below 200 at the last re-alignment and the largest school in 1A. Current 2A schools that are now smaller than Beechwood are Covington Holy Cross, Newport Central Catholic, Owensboro Catholic, Newport, Ballard Memorial, Fort Knox, Betsy Layne, Middlesboro and Trimble County. That is nine 2A schools that are now smaller than Beechwood. Beechwood is going to 2A in 2019.

Dixie was 6A at the last re-alignment. When it was decided all the Boone County schools would move up from their proper 5A classification and play up in 6A, then Dixie was allowed to move down to 5A. Based on how that has played out, if Boone County schools decide to keep all their schools in 6A at the next re-alignment, people making that decision should be fired.

Reminder ... 1A is the 32 smallest schools. 6A is the 32 largest schools. If a school is larger than the 32 smallest, they are in 2A. If a school is smaller than the 32 largest, they stay down. The remaining schools in the middle are divided equally into 4 classes. Schools are allowed to appeal to move up, but not to move down except for unusual, special circumstances. However, if schools move up to 6A like what Boone County schools did, then the smallest of the 32 largest schools are allowed to move down to keep 6A at no more than 32 schools. Dixie chose to move down to allow the Boone County schools to move up.

I am not arguing that Beechwood won’t be in 2A next alignment what I take exception to is people saying they aren’t playing in the proper class or should move up because they are extremely good. If we use that logic because they are so good they should move up then because Trinity and St. X are so dominant in 6A they should go compete in the GCL and try to win titles there. It’s not a proper way to view the situation Beechwood like everyone else is playing where they were put.
