To answer your question about Boyle’s schedule I can see it as mixed.

 

They have defeated Wayne n Collins who are at the top of 4A with JC. Lex Cath is really down this year but BC throttled them in second half.

 

The Hardin’s haven’t been all that good. The loss to Danville was game two and a game ending FG.

 

Nothing but respect from me for what Belfry does. But hope that helps with your schedule question.

Congrats to the Pirates on what has to go down as a big, big win this season.

Sounds like you got to go to the game! What's going on with this changing gears in the second half stuff!I figured like you. Our D-Line was custom made for their Offense and I figured just that til the second half! About the third time we have shut GOOD teams down then! I just can't see where the coaching staff could make that many adjustments! We just seem to turn it up! Are we in that better shape? Seems like smaller and quicker is better WHEN we decide to play ball! Win HAD to help us with BOTH scheduling and confidence! Just the opposite with JC! I still haven't figured how our SOS was so low! We have played some quality teams and I think the odds on favorite to win it all again! Again I think that SOS was a joke! Boyle has been bulldozing teams but who what are their combined win/ loss records? Corbin played a lot of 1-A and 2-A teams and got some home help from the zebrasI think! All they have to do is set their alarm for the semis! If Belfry keeps winning won"t that be at CAM? Central tough at home but have not played but maybe one or two middle of the road 6-A teams! Again, I think after tonight seedings and confidence put Belfry at the top of the pack! Seems like the team is feeding off of each other but why wait til the second half when it could be too late! Belfry has been a pretty good 2nd half team over the last few years. An exception to that would be the opening game vs Huntington where I think their youth worked against them, but for the most part, they are good at making adjustments at the half. A lot of that is coaching staff, who are experienced and good at it, but a lot of it also is the maturity of the kids. Even though they haven't been in a hole very often, when they do fall behind they don't panic.

 

Last night after the teams traded a few punts, JC found their stride and really pushed Belfry around for a couple of series. Then we helped them out and gave them the ball inside the 15 yd line on the third one. Their OL is BIG. They are an impressive looking bunch. Belfry completed a long pass for a TD and found a way to get a few stops on defense and the worm turned.

 

Boyle built the type of program that EVERYBODY hoped to have. They won titles in 2A and 3A when there was only 4 classes. And they did it in dominating fashion beating some of the state's best. Then they won at least one in 4A after the change to 6 classes. They were a machine and produced some of the best talent ever to play this sport in KY. Their fans, and others, have said this team is the best they have had since those days and has the potential over the next couple years to be as good as any of those prior teams. That made me take notice. I haven't seen them play, but I have no doubt they are the real deal. Plus they have crushed their opponents, so SOS is not necessarily a good indictor.

 

If all goes as chalk, Belfry and Boyle should be on a collision course. A lot of football to play before we can really talk about that, but it would be a really exciting game to plan for, especially for us fans.

 

As far as Belfry's playoff path, it will likely be like this IF they keep winning.

Wanna run a couple of things by you!I think this is about the third game Belfry has come alive in the second half against quality competition and it ignites the whole team, especially the undersized D-Line!What gives? A good 'ol you gonna play ball tonight or what? I seem to think it comes from great coaching adjustments BUT something else is lighting a fire under them to play the way they do in the second half! Yes, they are much smaller on the D-Line than the past four years, but they are also quicker and get to the ball carrier much faster! The O-Line is just about as big as last year and I think we get them all back! What do we have from the Middle School coming up? Is anybody in 3-A anywhere as close as JC this year? I think our stock rose a lot with the JC win and JC's stock and confidence rose a bunch!I really think Belfry is probably the odds on favorite to win it now! Boyle kinda scares me but what are the records of the teams they are running over? hopefully we won't have to play Central in Louisville and I don't think Corbin is as strong as advertised! I can't believe they have Belfry so far down when it comes to other schools! A lot of people believe in the SOS they have out but I find it hard to comprehend! Your thoughts?

 

I think Belfry's schedule has played a part in that.

 

They have been forced to play a couple teams this year that are not up to their standards and then the District foes just arent overly strong. The past couple years Belfry was playing powerhouse after powerhouse so it was like iron sharpening iron.

 

I think when Belfry is asked to set up to play a Midland or JC, teams with more size, fundamentals, and talent... there has been a bit of an adjustment period. I also think Haywood has kind of tested the waters to start the game to see what he has to work with and then he opened the playbook or went to what it works once he exposes a weakness.

 

IMHO the biggest thing with the Defense tonight was rest, I know I joked about it but I think it is true. Belfry forced 3 and outs from JC on their first two possessions.. JC then kept it simple and earned a hard fought drive that took some gas out of Belfry. The Pirates stumbled around with mistakes and penalties on the next possession and gave it right back. JC once again worked Belfry and the D was exhausted. Then Belfry fumbled immediately after and the D didnt have any gas to stop them

 

Once Belfry got their Offense going it gave them time to rest and they got back to the form they had to open the game where their quickness and speed was too much.

 

 

 

 

As for Class 3A,

I think Johnson Central is a great team but there are other great teams in 3A. Central just beat 6A PRP, Boyle is playing about as impressive as Belfry and dominated 4A Wayne County like Belfry beat JC, Corbin has been solid all year.

 

The 3A title is going to be a bear to win due to cross bracketing. Belfry will have to beat the #2, #3, and #4 teams IMHO to win it.

Belfry shouldn't have a problem next week with Thomas Nelson or the week after (if they advance), if they do then something is bad wrong in the Pirate Ship!!!

3A and 2A will be exciting playoffs in my opinion. Would love to see a Belfry/ Boyle matchup. But I believe Belfry may have to go to Central correct? Another fun matchup

Belfry would beat a healthy Waggener team by 35 points. I'm saying that having seen both teams play when they were at full strength.
