For me, every Saturday during football season starts out the same way. I wake up, make myself some breakfast and put on ESPN's College Gameday. The game analysis, the pageantry, the atmosphere, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit… I enjoy every aspect of it. No one else comes close to giving you the kind of coast to coast college football Saturday preparation that ‘Gameday’ does. It's become an institution.

Imagine for a moment that BGP had an on site crew traveling around the state covering the marquee game for that week, a “High School Gameday”, if you will. ATLCat, Colonels_Wear_Blue, Voice of Reason, and Purple88 (88 gets to don the headgear each week!) are behind the desk setting the table for all the action on Friday night. Guru and Ram, with their headsets on, directing and producing behind the scenes. We can dream, can't we?

This week's schedule would certainly provide a tantalizing slate of games to choose from...

1A #1 Beechwood vs. 3A #1 Corbin

What better place to start than #1 vs. #1? It's not every year that you get match-ups between top ranked teams. This one should be a dandy, pitting two tradition rich programs together on the gridiron for the first time ever. Beechwood will look for better, more efficient production from its offense against a stout Redhound defense.

6A #1 Trinity at 6A #4 Male

Anytime these two Jefferson County heavyweights collide, it's a big deal. Whether it's the classic 59-56 Trinity triumph in the 2002 4A championship game or the series of heart attack inducing nail biters they've had in recent years, the stakes are always high.

2A #1 CAL vs. 3A #3 Elizabethtown

After taking down dangerous opponents South Oldham and Central Hardin, the defending 2A champ’s schedule doesn't get any easier. Who wins the battle between the Centurions stifling defense (allowing 7 ppg and 186 ypg) and E-Town's fast, efficient offense (averaging 52 ppg and 470 ypg)? I'm confident about CAL's status among 2A’s elite, but this game will really tell us more about where Elizabethtown stands in the hierarchy of 3A.

5A #2 Bowling Green vs. 5A #4 Owensboro

After rare consecutive losses, the Purples will try to get back to their winning ways against fellow 5A contender Owensboro. Bowling Green has won 11 in a row over the Red Devils dating back to 2009. Sooner or later, Owensboro is going to end that losing streak. Are they catching the Purples at just the right time, or does BG continue to stick it to the Devils and remind everyone that 5A is still their domain?

3A #6 Boyle County vs. 4A #2 Wayne County

The Rebels three point loss to Danville last week takes a little of the shine off of this match-up. But only a little. These are two very good football teams. When it's all said and done, this could be one of Week 3’s best games.

2A # 5 LCA vs. 3A #6 Lexington Catholic

The battle for Fayette County private school supremacy. Expect offensive fireworks galore in a game with no shortage of speed and skill on that side of the ball. LCA, in my opinion, needs an impressive showing here to keep pace with the top 4 in 2A.

2A #7 Newport Central Catholic vs. 3A #2 Belfry

These traditional powers from NKY and the mountains will collide for the third year in a row. Both programs command respect from one end of the Commonwealth to the other. On paper, the Pirates are a pretty clear favorite, but they must make a 3½ hour drive away from the comfort of Pond Creek without the stockade of future D1 linemen that beat up on the 'Breds last year.

6A #5 Scott County vs. Moeller (OH)

The Cardinals have rolled to a 3-0 start, averaging almost 53 ppg. After hanging 71 on Highlands, they'll now turn their attention to the mighty Moeller Crusaders from Cincinnati. Moeller gave Trinity quite a scrap last week before the Shamrocks shook loose the cobwebs and put together a strong 2nd half performance to win, 38-30. A victory over a GCL South heavyweight would go a long way toward showing that Scott County belongs in the 6A title picture.

There's a lot of big time football to be played this weekend. Where should the (hypothetical, of course) BGP High School Gameday crew be this Friday? Is it one of the games listed above? Or is there an under the radar game that deserves a visit from Guru, Ram, and the rest of the fellas?

Where will I be, you ask? Oh, I'll be in the parking lot, tailgating with whoever BGP's version of Samantha Ponder is. :D

Where is Campbell county this week

Nice thread idea, DMC :thumb:

Trinity / Male is a marquee matchup, and worthy of the Gameday crew. It isn't as big as the Trinity / St. X game in a few weeks, however, and that is the one Gameday should cover.

So I voted for Beechwood / Corbin because of two #1's squaring off against each other. There is a lot of story lines there and plenty to showcase in this small school matchup.

Cool idea. I am going to pretend that Gameday has been a weekly occurrence through the season. While Trinity/Male it the game of the week, I will assume that the crew was already dispatched to one of the first two Trinity games. I am voting Beechwood/Corbin.

I'll take Beechwood/Corbin too. That 1 vs. 1 match-up is too hard to pass up for me. I'd love to be there first hand to experience that big game NKY atmosphere. Hopefully it lives up to its billing.

Great thread.

I picked Corbin/Beechwood.

Although the LCA/Lex Cath is also worthy. Do these two programs play on a regular basis? If they don't they should.

I'm taking Scott Co/ Moeller. Big border clash and will find out how Scott Co measures up to Trinity. State bragging rights at play! GCL team going 0-2 against KY would be big.

Beechwood vs Corbin as a battle of #1s

That LCA LexCath game also moves the meter.

With LexCath beating Lafayette it may be for bragging rights for the City of Lexington

This will only be the fourth meeting all time between LCA and LexCath. I agree, they should play more often. I did a game of the week write up on it a few days ago...

As for brainstorming ogg the great thread idea...

I think it would be fun to pick a Bluegrasspreps KENTUCKY GAME OF THE WEEK where we have a panel consolidate their opinion and breakdown in the game thread.

If it involves one of the panel member's "Home School" they have to sit out and let a different panel member step in.

Thinking long term how fun would it be if Guru could even bring on a guest picker. Old coaches, notable former players, Media Guys like Jason Frakes or Josh Moore, Mike Fields, etc...

Maybe reach out to the radio guys for each school and have them chime in during the week.

Probably not realistic..but how cool would that be?

WYMT did this last year for Pikeville/Paintsville game I believe.

Would @theguru be Lee Corso?

Not so fast my friend!

RUN DMC - GREAT Thread Idea! Love this!

I am looking with Purple colored glasses on when I voted for Owensboro vs BG as if BG were to win it would be the first time the series hasn't been in Owensboro's favor since 1945.
