Figured it would be an ugly game for the Knights. Didn't know if it would be this ugly.

Who played qb for CovCath?

 

Mayer played most of the 1st half. When running clock started in the 3rd they put in Reusch.

Another impressive game from Covington Catholic. They are starting to look like the team to beat in class 5A. At least at this early point of the season.

Colonels used McGinnis in the QB position out of the "wildcat", too.

Cov has a special season in the works. I hope they keep it going. Great coach and kids with an inspiring story. Very hard not to root for them, regardless where you're from!

CovCath reminded me of Highlands the last time they were at LexCath a few years ago. But the Colonels looked bigger.

 

For LexCath, when the passing game is off its usually a rough night. The quick-outs and hitch patterns were smothered well by the quick CovCath D. Those work well against a lazy or slow defense but CC was on top of them tonight and not much else was working for the Knights. Early interception seemed to cause more conservative calls afterwards.
