I said in the first apple bowl thread that was closed... this game was the reason why I joined bluegrasspreps.com But I realized something last night in the beating JC gave to Paintsville. JC lost the apple bowl my junior and senior years, ever since then I have always had the mentality of "I'd rather JC go 1-9 and beat Paintsville than go 14-1 and win the state title and loose the apple bowl." I am so glad I am over that. And there still is alot of JC faithful that feel that way. That was the whole season was based on beating Paintsville. Now that JC FINALLY has a football team that can be respected, it makes the apple bowl seem kinda pointless. With the way things are now, it makes the black and gold wonder why Paintsville ever won a game against JC.

This is EXACTLY what many Paintsville folks have said regarding Central's attitude about the Apple Bowl. Now you see what we meant. Seeing the problem is the first step in correcting it. :thumb:

 

OTOH, Paintsville has always NEEDED the $$ generated from the game - even in all the years Paintsville had Central badly outclassed. I can see the "pointless" claim on the part of Central presently - the $$ isn't needed on the wrong side of the creek.

 

As far as an answer to the last sentence in your post...the reason Paintsville won so many is because the Tigers got the better of it 20 out of the 33 games - for many different reasons. Not all of those years do I believe Paintsville was the better team, rather, I believe Central came in too tight because they wanted to win too badly.

One thing I havent done in a few games in given JC a rating based how they played. With all things concidered, I give JC's performance an A+. Paintsville never was in the ball game. JC dominated from the time they got off the bus until they loaded back up. JC really could have scored 100 points in this game. When a team scores 49 points in a half, and they have only used 1 or 2 running backs, it only makes you wonder. Paintsville's fans usually will cheer the entire time. Not this year, after halftime there was very few people wearing blue and white left in the stadium. Now JC has to get focused on Greenup County, Ashland, Mason County, 4 play-off games and a trip to Louisville on December 1st.

And about this year's Apple Bowl...if we had Matewan's coach instead of Coach Matney, they'd probably spend this week talking about the national rushing record Shawn Grim would've set Friday night instead of that kid from Matewan.

I agree. We will be playing Ashland for a while with the looks of the new 6 class alignment. And what a better way to start a rivalry than the way last years game ended.

Hopefully this game will be played next year, and in all honesty... it will be played. And even better than that it will be at JC and by then their new football complex should be completed.

When will they start on the new complex and how long will it take. Bryan Station is redoing there campus and they have been working on it for 2 years.

Considering the speed at which the new Cal Ripken fields were completed this spring, I would think that the new facilities...at least the football field and stadium...would be completed by next season.

Lets hope so... I hope it looks as good as belfry's does...

I was told that the turf will take about 4 to 6 weeks to lay. JC is also going to be getting a new regulation style track so they can host regional track meets. So with that, they will have to have bleachers on both sides of the field. I dont know if there will be a big stadium like there is now on the home side and a smaller set of bleachers on the visitors side. Most people are excited about that indoor athletic complex building. If what everybody is saying is true, it will be able to give all sports at JC a very nice training facility.

Funny that you should mention some of the boys painted blue. I overheard one of the blue boys, (which by the way played last year) really dogging and saying not so nice things about his former teammates during the game. With that kind of an attitude I would think that Paintsville's football team is better off without some of them. I think the last thing they need right now is a cancerous element on the team. I was impressed with those that were on the field, that they never gave up and played hard all the way to the end of the game. In my opinion that is what it's all about anyways.

I'm not sure how long this series will last depending on the time frame for changes in enrollment. Ashland's numbers are real close to be in 4A under the new 6 class allignment from what I hear.

True but according to the enrollment figures for this new six class system Ashland actually had a larger enrollment that Johnson Central. It wasn't by much but they were still larger.

I am wondering the same thing about Rockcastle. Massey has Rock's SOS ranked 117th vs. JC's 119 ranking. That should give Rock a huge edge come playoff time!:lol:

Never said it would be an advantage. As always when the opponents record is mentioned JC fans tend to turn the attention to another team. Laugh it up for now.
