JC broke their streak of not being able to win the apple bowl for 3 years straight. Now I think the question is how many records does JC want to break each year in this game.

The best thing about this game imo, it only comes once a year. In basketball these teams can play 3 or 4 times a season. But only there is only 1 apple bowl. Good win for JC, now JC has to start preparing for Greenup County in a big district game next friday night.

I believe before this game the combined records of the opponents JC has beaten this year is a stellar 9-23. :eek: It would be nice to how they stack up against a good team. On the other hand Ashland opponents have a combined record of 22-11 I believe, its close to that anyway. I cant find Portsmouth West's record, but I believe they are 3-3...

 

Part of the reason JC's opponents have such a "stellar" record is because JC is responsible for 7 of those losses. Ashland's key Putnam wins came against good 2A teams, but not great teams, and teams I believe Johnson Central would easily beat. Central could have beaten Paintsville 100-0 tonight. Midway through the second quarter, up 49-0, Coach Matney showed his class rather discreetly, by experimenting with the pass, containment D, holding Grim back, etc.

No suprise here, though I am really starting to wonder if Johnson Central's regular season succes is more window dressing than actual substance.

No, its just a legitimate question. I didnt know this fact until someone told me today, but it really makes you stop and think about the level of competition they have faced so far.

 

North Laurel, Bryan Station, the South Point JC played, would IMO all beat Ashland. Look at the competition those teams have played.

I am wondering the same thing about Rockcastle. Massey has Rock's SOS ranked 117th vs. JC's 119 ranking. That should give Rock a huge edge come playoff time!:lol:

Central might want to wait to see who takes over for Phillip Haywood at Belfry (when he decides to hang 'em up) before they decide to quit this series. I don't mean that to sound trite, but...it could matter a lot.

 

(Besides, Central isn't even 1/2 way to Paintsville's record 8 straight Apple Bowl wins... Paintsville now only leads the series 20-13... )

I think even Watusi has mentioned time and time again that Matney would not end up at Belfry. I really can't figure you out 'joe. For parts of the season you have seemed genuine saying nice things about the JC porogram and then for some unknown reason then you become the oneijoe of old. The joe that cant help but to throw in that envious jab( et. $$$$...sure does good things) that you have worn out over the years or that other worn out (just wait till Haywood leaves) comment. You must stay awake night after night after night worring about coach Matney and how the JCBOE spends it's money. You sure harp and whine around enough about it. Does just the thought of coach Matney haunt you so much that it has taken control of your life?

Speaking of keeping the series alive I found out something very interesting today at Central's pep rally. I was told by some administrators at JC that Paintsville has still not signed the Apple Bowl contract for the next two years. Why is this? I've heard for three years now from Tiger fans that Coach Matney and Johnson Central would end the Apple Bowl and look who is dragging there feet. Johnson Central signed there part of it Tuesday. This game is a tradition of Johnson County and it needs to continue. Heck fire Johnson Central lost eight Apple Bowls in a row and you didn't see them throwing in the towel. This imo is the best rivalry in the state and I would hate to see this game canceled. The ball is in Paintsville's court. Come Coach Allen, Coach Runyon (A.D) and other officials in the Paintsville Independent school system get in gear and get this game on for the next two years. What is the hold up? Lord knows Johnson Central took there lumps in this series but they didn't quit. Come on guys show some man hood and keep this series alive.

Seriously??? How many times over the last couple of years have we heard Paintsville fans ridicule coach Matney for accusing him of wanting to put an end to the series? Interesting.

One thing that I wanted to comment on was that JC is in for MAJOR rennovations at its Athletic Complex next year. The Board approved a total rehaul of both the Football and Baseball stadiums with both having there bleachers destroyed and being overhualed. The big news was that JC is going to have an artificial turf surface and a state of the art Indoor Athletic Complex. Good to see that the Board is behind Coach Matney and giving him a top notch Athletic Facility.

 

 

Sounds like Johnson Central will have some great facilities in the near future. I was just wondering where the funding for this projects come from, and I don't see any mention of improvement towards any of the girls programs. I think we both know that could be a problem.
