Johnson Central 56 Paintsville 6

Featured Replies

I think that the time has come to pull the plug on this series. Three straight blowout wins by the Golden Eagles and the future looks like more of the same. The Apple Bowl used to hold some suspense for fans of both teams, but Matney's arrival pretty much ended that. Games like this one do neither team much good.

Sounds like a huge money game though. Everybody needs those. Especially with the crazy realignment next year.

It creates a huge shot in the arm for both school's athletic budgets is about all you can say. That in itsself may be what keeps the series alive.
Paintsville's new stands do not comfortably accomodate the number of fans who normally attend the Apple Bowl. The seating is adequate for the other games on Paintsville's schedule, but if the school planned on hosting every other Apple Bowl, Paintsville should have installed more seats.

How was the crowd tonight and how many people were without seats?

If playing a tougher opponent would better prepare the Golden Eagles for the post season, then JC should drop the Paintsville game. Maybe the two schools could take turns hosting the Apple Bowl to allow them to schedule a home and away series with a couple of teams on their own level.

I cant say enough about Johnson Central's performance tonight... total dominance by JC. Paintsville didnt know what hit them in the first quarter. Shawn Grimm made Paintsville pay for those awuful remarks made about him and his school. JC could have scored 200 points if they wanted to. JC's defense shut Daniel Pugh out. He had a big pass reception, but other than that he did nothing. To be honest, this game was just a tune-up for JC before their last 3 games of the regular season.

Might be a good idea for Johnson Central. Maybe then they could get to the second round of the playoffs.

My guess is that JC would not lose much at the gate if it scheduled an Apple Day weekend with Belfry or some other team whose support "travels well." Paintsville fans will not continue to turn out in large numbers to watch the Tigers get blown out by halftime by the Golden Eagles.

However, JC fans found out the hard way how fast a team can go from an 11-1 record to a 2-8 record. Hopefully, when Coach Matney decides to call it quits in a few years, JC will find a capable replacement for him. Otherwise, the Tigers will eventually once again be competitive with the Golden Eagles.

Not a surprise but...Congrats on the win Central!

J.K. Ratliff got some snaps tonight, didnt really do much... but I was glad to see him out there. Micheal Tackett, Blake Johnson, Nathaniel Dials, Josh Gordouze, Cody Lowe, Tommy Taylor, Mason Meek, Trey Belhasen all played very well on defense. Shawn Grimm, Chase Richardson, Blake Johnson, Dennis Dillion, Ian Welch all had big games on offense as well. Total dominance by JC.

Johnson Central's side was full, and Johnson Central fans took up about an entire 3rd of Paintsville's side seating. The rails were full of standing observers as usual. It was a full house , but I'm guessing that there were still alot of fans from both sides that did not attend due to the fear of no seating and the threat of a blowout game.

There was maybe 5,000 people there. Paintsville had almost cleared out by halftime. Not near the crowd last year though.

Unless somebody in the nfl calls him, he will be at JC for a long time.

I had not driven by the field after the new visitors' stands were installed until last weekend and I was really surprised at how small the stands were. The seating is adequate for every other game on Paintsville's regular season schedule, but not for a large Apple Bowl crowd.

There was an apoligy made by Paintsville before the game for what was said in the "you might be a greaser" top 10 list. I'm glad an apoligy was made, but I'm also glad JC was able to do their talking on the field!

Talk your smack but your day is coming.:thumb: JC totally dominated this game as they should have. Scoring 56 on Paintsville was nice by Matney cause it could have been much worse and the officals by running as much clock as possible.

One thing that I wanted to comment on was that JC is in for MAJOR rennovations at its Athletic Complex next year. The Board approved a total rehaul of both the Football and Baseball stadiums with both having there bleachers destroyed and being overhualed. The big news was that JC is going to have an artificial turf surface and a state of the art Indoor Athletic Complex. Good to see that the Board is behind Coach Matney and giving him a top notch Athletic Facility.

JC is the team to beat in Eastern Ky IMO.

I would have to agree with you on that stick.

And the way the radio talked, the entire construction phase will be done by next school year. I cant wait to see Greenup County roll into the nest next week.
