As far as the stronger schedule... I dont know about that.

JC has Greenup and Open. Ashland plays a tough Mason County team and then a walk-through against Lawrence County. While it may be close, I think Lawrence Co. is better than Open.

JC has their open week at the best possible time. They are on fall break that week and they have an extra week to prepare for Ashland. I dont think any players from JC got hurt in the apple bowl. The game against Greenup County might be the first game all season that JC has their full team healthy and has to leave their starting offense and defense in the entire game.

One thing that I wanted to comment on was that JC is in for MAJOR rennovations at its Athletic Complex next year. The Board approved a total rehaul of both the Football and Baseball stadiums with both having there bleachers destroyed and being overhualed. The big news was that JC is going to have an artificial turf surface and a state of the art Indoor Athletic Complex. Good to see that the Board is behind Coach Matney and giving him a top notch Athletic Facility.

 

YES. this is true!!!... The football field will be turned around where the endzone is towards the river adn the baseball field with also be turned . This will eliminate the burden of many sun delays. The infiel of the baseball field will be turf and the grass from the football field will be picked up and be placed in the outfield of the baseball field. You are also correct about the turf football field. The soccer games will also be played on the football field. Matney has said he is all for it and when soccer has a game, he will practice on the practice fields and soccer agrees. Class act move by matney. He is for all sports. The indoor faciltiy will be big enough to practice in and for baseball to throw and anything else. They will name it after the late superintendent of johnson county schools Orville Hamilton.

Can any Paintsville fan clue us in as to why Paintsville hasn't agreed to play the Apple Bowl the next two years ? They've had the contract for a week but still no signature. RNC can you shed some light on this subject?

Laugh it up now. We havent even seen a game this year where JC is at full strength in terms of having all its players in. Ask Coach Hart how hard is going to be to game plan for the Offense of JC. JC has used a different rotation in almost every game this year. Your day is 3 weeks and you arent in Putnam Stadium this year either. I believe that Ashland will give JC its best game this year on its regular season schedule but believe me you will not be questioning JC's strength of schedule after playing them.

I believe that it always benefits a team to play a tough schedule so they can look back on those tough games during crunch time. That is when you find out what your team is made of, JC just hasnt had that yet, and I believe that will hurt them going into the Ashland game.

Isn't it true that Ashland just hasn't gotten around to playing some these nobodies that Ashland will themselves be playing in a couple of weeks?

I believe that JC has played BC already, and Ashland has played Greenup so far in the district, so those are the only shared oppoents both teams have faced so far. So both teams are 1-0 against these weaker district opponents. So I guess the answer to your question is NO. There is no doubt what-so-ever that Ashland's non-district schedule was tougher, you just have to look at the combined records to see that.

Maybe JC can schedule Raceland next season and find out how good it is early in the season.

 

Ashland has played some good 1A and 2A teams this season, but I am not conviced that either Russell or Belfry are the same strong teams that ended last season. Belfry is typically a slow starter that struggles early and peaks late.

 

Johnson Central has played some athletic teams and some excellent passing quarterbacks. Pass defense has traditionally been a weak spot for the Golden Eagles but that no longer is the case. JC has also developed a solid kicking game that has been missing from most previous teams.

 

I hope that Paintsville does not sign the Apple Bowl contract and the Johnson Central adds another strong team to its non-district schedule next season. However, JC's strength of schedule will play no role in the Ashland game. If JC loses, it will lose because Ashland is a better team - not because the Tomcats played a marginally better competition. I just don't see any district team staying within 2 touchdowns of the Golden Eagles on their home field this season.

Ashland, if you compare their opponents, with say, Pikeville, then you're looking at two comparable teams and the nod probably has to go to the Panthers because they seem to have a better defense. That makes about as much sense as your convoluted analysis. Keep it up though. Central can never get too much motivation.
