Not saying he should be included, but Burch did have a great junior year. 2,400 yds passing, 64% completion, 26 Tds and 6 int's. In many games he played about half the game. He should have a great senior year.

I'm partial, but Jake Chisholm (Ryle) is an absolute joy to watch. Huge stats, huge GPA, Huge ACT score. Super kid, Super Family. Not taking away from anyone else.

Shearer had 1338 yards 13 tds he only played about 10 plays a game last year backing up Cameron Racke.

How about Wandale Robinson and Hunter Perdue. These two have better numbers than the other RBs mentioned and are D1 RBs. I have seen them both. They are going to be the hunt. Usually 2000 yards would get some mentions.

NEITHER will be in the hunt.

 

- Robinson is a Junior, not a senior. He would have to have an absolutely enormous year and overcome the fact that Western Hills is from a smaller class, wasn't particularly elite last year (one and done) and does NOT play the most challenging schedule. Mr. Football is a media award (Mr. Basketball is voted on by the coaches) and Western Hills doesn't leave CKY during its schedule (for other voters to see him).

 

- Perdue has a similar problem. Small class and team wasn't good last year. Plus, he would need the Louisville area's media votes and they already have good candidates (notably Moore and Rice) much closer to home with much bigger college offers. Moore also plays for the state's top team.

 

Both are fabulous players who will have good seasons and will have a nice selection of colleges to choose from.

 

In order to be Mr. Football, though, you need more firepower. A junior and a player from a mediocre team on the outskirts of a metro area with other high-quality candidates is a LOT to overcome just to ENTER the conversation, let alone win.

Trying to remember Dillon Wheatley from last season.

Ashland QB Braxton Ratliff. Ashland will go as far as his legs and Cannon for an arm will take them. Don't think he will win it but could put up Monster stats. Also the RB from Johnson Central Jackson maybe one of the best backs in the State. Both are Juniors I believe.

I cant find much fault in that as an early start. Pretty well done.

 

It is alarming though that Waggener has two Mr. Football candidates and may not be a Top 10 team in their class.

 

Curious isn't it? Waggener in recent years has had lots of talent but been less then stellar on the field.

Last year’s Mr. Football, D’Mauraie VanCleave wasn’t mentioned by anyone in this thread. Funny how things change fast once the season starts.
