I disqualify Breathitt's stadium...although unique... due to one evry critical flaw.

 

It is one of the, if not the, most visitor unfriendly stadium in the state. The visitor seating is minimal at best, you must tread through inches of mud to get there and once you do your view is obstructed by the helmets of the players and fear of falling off the rickity seats into the river behind you.

 

When teams such as Belfry travel and pretty much are forced to sit on the covered home side the Bobcat fans have proved rude and threatening as well. Big thumbs down to Breathitt!

I'd have to say that kentucky football is on the rise and a lot of schools are finding ways to increase the facilities for these programs.

 

I say that I like Belfry, Trinity, Danville, Hoptown, I like Mercers new facility from the pictures. Corbin has nice facilities, all of the Lexington schools has the new turf.

 

Maybe we can start a new thread with old/new pictures of upgrades on facilities of new schools.

Is there any truth to the rumor that a video screen, compliments of Massey, is in the works for Belfry's stadium?

I don't see that as a need, personally. Those things are so expensive that it seems to me to be a gigantic waste of resources for a high school football stadium.

 

I know you can't turn down money that is donated, but at the same time you need to try and steer to your needs instead of things that are frivilous. IMO, the money that it would take to put in a jumbo screen could be spent in much better ways.

This brings up something that I have wondered for a while.... why doesn't Belfry have an organized boosters club or a touchdown club in place? I know myself personally, as well as others I know, would love to take part in this (IF handled the right way and not in a political manner).

 

Although the novelty of a video screen would be very amusing I tend to agree with Watusi on this one. I would much rather see improvements in the weight complex, an increase in seating on the visitor side, and other investments that would directly benefit the porgrams progression quicker. BUT... in that same breath I know that the popularity of Belfry football could easily translate to advertisisng dollars on the big screen that could also be used for the same purposes. Its a Catch 22 circumstance.

 

*Sidenote...I have always wanted to see a Pirate ship built, with cannon, for the team to run through...don't know why..just always thought it would be cool HAHA

My top 3...Places ive played at.

 

1. Belfry...Playing down below the school and the sea of red...I think the atmosphere takes it over the top.

2. Trinity...The nicest facilities and the largest fan base make it a unforgettable experience for any player.

Johnson Central's getting a new stadium when this season ends. Its going to have the sport turf surface like Belfry/Pikeville and Shelby Valley.

 

I've heard it may seat as many as 6000-7000. As soon as an artist rendering is released I'll try to get it posted.

That's awesome, GEF. Although, I always thought JC had one of the nicer grass fields in EKY to play on. I'm anxious to see what they build.

Trinity's is fantastic, and I'm sure St. X's will be as well. Male's is real nice (get's SOOO crowded during the Male/Manual games, though), and Manual Stadium keeps improving (yeah, yeah, the lights issue gets all the talk, but still). I also liked Danville's stadium, but I can't really think of any others that come to mind.

 

I wouldn't trade Manual stadium for any of the others mentioned above.

Here is the football field...turf is set to go in mid November. I've been told that the football stadium (with full track and field), fieldhouse, and baseball stadium will be complete as early as March...depending on weather...

I am stunned that ANYONE would like the facilities at Highlands. (with the exception of between the lines) I would rather watch a game there than anywhere else because the bleachers are so close to the field. I've been going to games for more than 35 years and have never had to park more than 1/4 mile (or even less) away. If you think that is too far, then I don't know what to tell you. Stay home I guess. I've parked farther away at Boone, Campbell, Beechwood, Elder and others. The next time you go to a game there and have to park "far" away, enjoy your walk through a beautiful city and take it all in. At least you're not crossing a busy highway like some of the above schools.
