Highlands' schedule for next year (2007)

Featured Replies

Scheduling Colerain may be a recipe for several injuries....see last game they played and ask Cecil/Hudepohl if they thought the ice cream truck was coming.

I don't think this would apply since the contract had not been signed. There was a verbal but when it came time to sign the Conner coach backed out. Just my opinion.

You got good scoop Henry. I wonder where you got it?

The contract had not been signed, thus there is no cancellation fee issue. I credit Stellman with being fair and not committing the next coach to a game that Trosper may have well wanted to avoid (and obviously did). I've got a feeling that CovCath's next coach may wish Rodenberg had taken a similar approach. With CovCath's graduation and a new coach coming in, having Cinti X, Louis X (or is it Trinity?) and Elder on the schedule is not doing any "favors" for the new coach.

As far as I know, the Colerain game is not a done deal yet. From what I understand, the Birds are willing to do a two year deal provided that the game this year is at Highlands. With the Conner game supposed to have been at Highlands, and with only three other home games, Highlands really needs the Colerain game to be at Highlands this year. Hopefully Colerain will agree to it. Colerain already has 4 other home games, so if they play at Highlands, each team will have 4 home games this year.

The Christmas walk? :walk:

Just saving Tdyballgame the trouble of saying it.

Don't think Cincy X is on the schedule this for 07. Louisville X, Elder, Moeller, and LaSalle all may be though.

Thanks for clearing up my mistake. Sorry about that.

No worries, LN. The CovCath schedule probably wasn't a topic on the Xmas walk this year.

Who were the 6 D-1 players that was referred to earlier? Stein-Hempfling-who else???

I didn't make the walk this year so it may have been discussed:banana:.

Wow!

Maybe some of these players that Dale emailed to Ernst and posted in his blog:

I stand corrected ...

Last week I posted a couple notes about Northern Kentucky's Division I football prospects in this year's junior class. Highlands coach Dale Mueller called me today to take issue with my observations. I had only two Highlands players on my list of Division I maybes (Alex Hempfling and Clay Cecil). According to Mueller, next year's class is expected to draw more DI scholarships than any other in school history. The present record is the four awarded to members of the 2000 team.

"Will all these guys get Division I scholarships? I doubt every single one of them will," Mueller said. "But I’d bet we’ll beat our record of four. It’s a class we’ve known about since they were in eighth grade."

Here are Mueller's guys, with quotes from the coach:

Luke Stein, LB/TE

"He’s really a legitimate 6-1, 227 (pounds) today. And he’s a ripped, fast, athletic, intelligent, guy. He’s a guy who will get a Division I player. He’s more of a defensive player than a tight end. He’s the perfect size for an inside linebacker."

Alex Hempfling, OL

"He's 6-3 ½, 270. To get a Division I scholarship as an offensive lineman, they want you to be a certain size and have good feet. He has that."

Clay Cecil, QB/DB

"He has a possibility of being a Division I quarterback, but I’ll think he’ll be a scholarship guy at defensive back. He’s 6-1, 185 and he’s really fast."

Ryan Ball, ILB

"He’s just over 6-0, 220. He can bench press close to 400 pounds. He’ll be a prospect."

Drew Simons, SS

"He’s a fast, athletic guy and a great hitter."

Zach Hurtt, LB

"He was injured this year and it was a frustrating year for him. But he long jumps on the track team and he’s 6-1, 215 athlete. He’s really strong."

Drew Bathiany, K

"We feel he’ll be a kicker that is a Division I guy. He hasn’t kicked as many field goals or kicked really far field goals, but he’s played defense and offense as well. But I think he’s a Division I kicker, a scholarship guy."

Trey Jurgens, LS

"He’s our long-snapper and a lot of guys can get scholarships for being long-snappers. He’s a good snapper and he can run down the field and make plays. Schools have expressed interest for him already because he’s a consistent, good player."

We'll see . . .

Thanks for the heads-up. So, the Conner game was never "officially" on the schedule.

Has anyone seen an "official" schedule, containing teams w/ signed contracts (not verbals) ?

JBAUER24...Thanks for the great followup...I don't necessarily agree...but I like the way Dale plugs for his peeps!! Be careful tonite (Monday 9:00pm).

That's what he should be doing...overstated or not. Plug the kids...

I think he should be 100% realistic as well; he could create some false hopes and shattered dreams.

I think he is being realistic. No one does a better job of pumping his players up than Dale does. Is that a bad thing. I don't think so. I can guarantee you that the way these boys work out and train basically year round, they aren't taking anything for granted whether a coach talks them up or not. They earn everything they get. It doesn't hurt either that they have a coach willing to go that extra mile to get these boys exposed. As of right now, Dale has 7 or 8 players names out in the papers and/or blogs. It's also nice to see that there are that many quality kids that my son gets to be around and play ball with. Maybe he will learn something from them as they are a great group of kids and role models. Their work ethic is second to none. I like many other faithful see good times ahead for these kids and the Birds!
