If talking about their large pizzas, then I'd probably agree. If talking about their personal pan pizzas on their lunch specials, then no. Those personal pan pizzas are so much better than their standard pizzas.

Jets is very good, and probably my favorite, but they are a little pricey. Marco's is high on my list, and probably my go to, carry out pizza. I really liked Papa Murphys, and wished they hadn't closed. I don't get the love for Larosa's--not a fan. Papa Johns is just ok, but will do if necessary. Snappy and Domino's are bottom of the food chain for me. Little Caesar's and Pizza Hut are horrible
March 1, 20179 yr Haven't ordered Papa Johns in years and this decision won't change that...really pleased with Marcos Pizza in the last couple years! Better than average pizza with solid crust and chicken wings! We order about once a month.
March 2, 20179 yr I'm always shocked at the strong negative opinions on Papa John's. I'm not the pizza connoisseur that many of you are, and I don't eat pizza more than 1x a month, but I'm fine with Papa John's. I think their mushrooms are the best of the national chains, and that is my favorite topping. I don't love their crust...until...wait for it...I dip it in that garlic butter. Then it is yummy. Personally, I'd put it ahead of Snappy Tomato and LaRosa's (pizza, I still love a lot of the other items on their menu), and certainly ahead of Donato's. It is on par with Pizza Hut and Domino's to me, but again, I'm not the pizza-nut some others are. My first choice for delivery pizza is Gramma's, mostly because I think they use a 5 pound bag of prov / mozz blend on every pie. Agree with pretty much everything here. I don't understand where the hatred for Papa John's comes from. It is exponentially better than Snappy. That's a joke to even compare. LaRosa's is good, but not everything you NKY'ers make it out to be.

Jets is delicious, however it feels as if you've eaten 10 lbs of food after one piece. The only place I would put behind Papa Johns is toppers. Toppers is a good way to make yourself sick for the night.
March 2, 20179 yr We often just pick up a pizza from Kroger. Not the frozen ones, but the actual Kroger pizzas that just need cooked, not heated. I don't remember what they call them. Sometimes they even have them for $4.99. Pretty good quality in my opinion. Agreed. We buy those and freeze them, and always have a couple ready to go for a quick meal. We probably eat more of those than carryout pizza from any of the chains mentioned.

I much prefer the stuff you get in cities and from small, independent companies, but when you live where I do, the only options are Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Dominos, or Little Caesars.

I'd say most probably agree with many local/small/independent choices being better than big box chain pizza. One problem is most of those places don't deliver or you can't swing by a drive thru and get one "hot and ready" on the way to the house. And, like you, sometimes the big chains places are the only options in the small town or rural areas. Dang, now I got a hunkering for a loaded pizza from Buddys here in Frankfort. Think I might call in an order about 11:00 and go get one for the office.
March 2, 20179 yr Papa John's is bad enough as it is; I'm sure not paying extra for the opportunity to get it faster. Only one that's worse is Little Caesars.
