Not as long ago as 2009.

Danny Weddle at WFTM Maysville is better than many college radio broadcasters.

 

Matt McCane who does webcast for Augusta is also exceptional, he does a fantastic job.

Not sure if you guys consider Maysville to be Northern Kentucky or not, but in my opinion nobody does a better job than Danny Weddle. He's right up there with Tom Leach and Kaywood Ledford, we're very blessed for him to stay put in Maysville for as long as he has.

Danny Weddle is great and it's because he's a professional. Most of the rest of these guys doing internet broadcasts (and some radio) are just puttering around after their day jobs. Weddle does this for a living and I bet he can call a game in his sleep. He's head and shoulders above everyone else.

Danny also covers the Chippeways Invitational at Maysville CC, or at least used to. I'm a huge fan of the man, as well as his work.

I almost never miss a 9th Region Tournament game much less a final, but for some crazy reason back in 2011 when Brandon Hatton was a freshman for Dixie, and Jake Giesler was the man for NewCath, I opted to stay home on this given Sunday afternoon and listen to this 4 Overtime Championship game on AM Radio.

 

I can't recall the station, but It might've been 1050 AM which I believe at one time might've been a Catholic station.

 

Back when games were still on the radio there were 2 local Northern Kentucky stations that would broadcast them. I can't say for sure who the announcers were in the end or the exact station #'s

 

But the last 9th Region basketball game I ever recall hearing on regular radio was:

 

2011 9th Region Final

 

Dixie 79

NewCath 76

I can't locate the update thread for that game, but I provided the updates while listening to the game on the radio. It seems that I gave quarterly updates, but when it went into overtime I gave score by score.

 

Could this possibly have been the very last 9th Region game ever broadcast on regular radio? If so, it sure was a dandy and a wild final game to end an era.

Ben Blesser at NorthernKentuckySports.com is doing his best to do "Games of the Week" throughout the football and basketball season. They do both audio and video.

 

They were in Alexandria this past Friday night for the Campbell County/Scott 37th District Finals. They plan on being at NKU for the 9th Region Tournament, BUT will be permitted to do audio only.

I know Kevin Connor was doing the CovCath football games. He did a great job with a lot insight. Does he still to the broadcast?

Before retirement I want to hear hear Danny Weddle and Dave Shabell call a wrestling match. Shabs of course would be Jim Ross.

I would like to hear Schabbs do a golf match. Matter of fact, I think the whole golf course could hear him do the broadcast .

There are some excellent basketball games in that archive. Double OT at Lloyd and Bertsch from the elbow at the buzzer to beat Scott were back to back GOTWs this season.

It was a thrill in 79 and 80 to have Dale and Hardy mention your name on the air. It was a thrill for my son in 02 03 and 04 to have Kevin Rengering call his name.

 

Guys like Dave, Mark, and Terry are providing the same memories to NKY kids today for no pay and s lot of time. Kudos to them.
