UConn 66 South Carolina 55 (Women)

Featured Replies

100 straight wins. 9 of them by 60+, 2 of them by single digits.

Number of games since they lost back-to-back games? Well over 800.

Pretty impressive. Seems like we have a lot of GOAT Coaches whether in be Men's College BBall, NFL, and I think you gotta say Geno for Women's College Bball.

This is one of those (rare) years when UConn wasn't thought of as highly as usual. Zero pre-season All-Americans, third in the pre-season poll.

Best player on the team is on the bench, sitting out a transfer year. They could run this out to 150 or more, easily.

Only two players on this team have ever lost, that is crazy.

There is just no parity at all in the sport and it makes me not care to even glance at it.

Absolutely no parity on the court and on the bench. Obviously the best team UCONN faced last year was their backups who are dominating this year.

UCONN is the only team that defies parity. The next 25 teams or so are very competitive.

Say what you want about me, I wouldn't be paying attention to it either way. UConn and things like this is the only thing that remotely moves the needle at all in Women's Basketball for me.

Completely agree.

Seeing what UConn is doing is the only reason most casual sports fans checks in on women's basketball. They are great for the sport IMO.

A few other crazy things about UCONN I just heard today. The loss before the streak was an OT loss at Stanford. If not for that loss the streak would be in the high 140's. Also, they have not had the #1 recruiting class since 2012 so this is not just Geno recruiting the 4-5 best HS players each year. He recruits well, no doubt but is a great teacher and game coach. I like watching his teams play. They move the ball extremely well, are incredibly unselfish and he always has players who can put the ball in the hole. They obviously play good defense too. If they don't lose this year they really may take this streak over 150 as JD said because all of their best players are back and they have the Dukie transfer who is a stud joining them next year. They really could have some women on this team play their entire four year careers without losing a game.

I know what you're saying. Just sounds odd.

I thought it was interesting that it was the highest rated women's regular season game since 2010, and the 2nd highest rated college basketball game on ESPN2 this season...men's or women's. That is nuts.

This was a topic on another board that I read yesterday. One comment that I tend to agree with is, although he doesn't get the top recruiting class every year, he does manage to get a couple of the top 5 prospects every year. And in women's basketball that is huge because unlike men's basketball there is a big drop off after the top 10 players in the country and the next 90. In addition, his top 2 or 3 girls he signs each year usually plays for him all 4 years. That's not the same with men's basketball, although it would have sure been nice to have had players like Wall, Cousins, Davis, Booker, Towns, etc around for 4 years.

There's no doubt Gino is a great coach, but the statement that he hasn't had the number 1 recruiting class in a while is misleading. He doesn't have to have the number 1 class to be dominate. Just land a couple of the top tier players each year and stockpile the mega-stars to build powerhouses. And win titles.

The thing I like most about Geno is that he doesn't dodge anyone. He wants to play the toughest schedule possible. The non-conference schedule they play is incredible.

In 13 non-conference games, they played and beat:

Six of the remaining current top ten: Maryland(2), Baylor(4), Florida State(4), South Carolina(6), Notre Dame(7), and Texas(8)

Three additional top 25 teams: Ohio State(12), Depaul(17), and Kansas State(24)

Unfortunately, outside of South Florida, the conference is not very good.
