Paris 67 Elliott County 58 (All A State 1st Rd.)

They have always said that about all mountain sports. Football hasn't done too bad recently. I agree to a sense but mountain sports aren't lacking in any sport IMO. Greenup just played for the baseball state championship and Shelby valley won a state basketball championship pretty recently. Sorry, I get tired of that mentality. Most of your statistical state leaders in basketball are from the 15-16th region. Timmy Daulton of Lawrence County is one of the top scorers in the country. Just saying

If Greenup is a mountain team, then I'm a spring chicken.

Great game plan by coach Brooks use your athletes to wear down a 6 man rotation...don't get it twisted game was never competitive...Paris missed 8 free throws as well...if they played 10 times Elliot may win 2...no offense to the Lions...they were jus out manned.

Oh, you don't have to convince me about Paris. I was highly impressed with their play and athleticism. I was only commenting on the poor free throw shooting of the Lions. But I totally agree with you that Paris controlled the game from start to finish.

Then I guess we're both spring chickens because I didn't think Elliott was either.

If Elliott County isn't a mountain county then there are no mountain counties in Kentucky. Last time I passed through Sandy Hook there were plenty of them.

I think when Greenup is mentioned as a mountain county it's more about them being part of a mountain region, the 16th.

The same thing is discussed down my way when mentioning the Laurel County schools. Laurel is in the 13th region with Harlan County, Bell, etc, but only about half the county has mountains if we put a physical geography angle to the discussion.

Paris on their way......... Leave it all on the floor.......No regrets

You have to account for the defense you are playing against when you talk about top scorers. Most of the top stats leaders coming from the 15th-16th could also mean that players they face are not what you would call defensive stoppers. I think the point being made is that until a team seeks out opponents who will challenge your ability to score by applying defensive pressure and effort then the results you see can be misleading.

Elliott loses by 9, shoots 8-21 from the foul line. And many of those free throw misses were front bonus. This would have been a much closer game if they could have connected better from the line.

The Elliott fans that I was sitting around said that the team is normally a great free throw shooting team. I suppose in a fast pace game like this one the legs get tired and the Paris defense made it tough on them all game.

68% on the season isn't great; but, your point is right on target.

Paris is very good, and getting better, but don't sell Elliott Co that short. The Lions were going to have a ton of trouble trying to come back once they dug a big early hole, but I'm confident that they are a better team than they showed tonight.

Both of these teams have a very good chance to make it to another State Tournament this season.

If Elliott County was in the 10th Region, they would be ranked about 8th or 9th in the region.

Agree!!

from what I saw - Paris is the better team, but Elliott Co. is better than they showed in the 1st half, where:

1) they beat the press but didn't attack it to score. They did this in the 2nd half and scored proficiently. They beat the press then set up to face pressure again in the 1/2 court. Most of their 2nd half points came at the end of the press or off turnovers.

2) they closed out 3 point shooters with hands down, and Paris made them pay. Seems they wanted to close out low to stop penetration but this resulted in several 3's that simply weren't contested aggressively.

Different story in the 2nd half, but foul trouble and Paris staying in attack mode made a comeback difficult.

I think Paris could give LCA trouble ... if they make it an ugly game. Assuming they both survive to semis. They'll need to stay calm in tense situations, they teetered on the edge of losing composure today. But they didn't. LCA will test that.

Elliott will learn from this and improve. I don't care where they're from, they have some good players (Spencer and Porter can compete in any region), and they play very hard. Get some balance and improve defense without fouling (hand up on closeouts), and they'll be very competitive in Rupp.

For sure was a fast paced game. Paris is a very athletic group of guys. Good luck.
